Gotta say this is one of the better designs to come out of Munich lately. Everything minus the ACC sensor in the grill looks great IMO.

Unless something has changed; BMW doesn't differentiate suspensions, diffs, steering racks or really anything mechanical outside of brakes and engines unless its an all out M car... its 90% visual.

Meaning a 30i, 40i, m40i model would all be able to choose from the same exact pool of options...

the real M car gets entirely different parts that are exclusive to it... suspension, steering rack, engines, brakes... virtually most mechanical parts

case in point, a 330i m sport and M340i outside of brakes and engine can be configured virtually identical

Absolutely stunning, but with it starting at almost $50k, one has to ask why your average informed consumer would buy this over a Model Y Long Range or Performance? Difficult sell imho.

One of the few glow ups BMW hasn’t flubbed. Totally decent looking car.

They kept teasing this car in Frozen Pure Grey II, now they unveiled it in FPG II. I can see FPG II on it on the UK config (+ German and Austrian).

I really hope we get it here in the US. The BMW Presser said that FPG II was coming to the 2 series and 3 series in July, yet those aren't available in the US config yet.

i was planning on doing the same to my portimao blue x1 m sport 28i. hopefully there will be a similar bumper and exhaust system in the after market to get a similar look once the m35i releases.

A $60k loaded out X1 M35i sounds about right when the next one up (X3 M40i) is about $70k loaded.

Yo why does this thing slap harder than the M2/3/4/5 currently lol

I have a few questions:

1. We thought DCT was dead, who makes the gearbox?

2. I'm assuming this is a FWD based x-Drive setup aka Haldex kinda?

3. Will this powertrain be available in a wagon?

Or retailers do that slimey thing where you have to provide an M35i VIN to the parts supplier to get factory M35i parts. Maybe someone on the forums could provide you theirs, if so.

I've been wondering for years when BMW would put the X2 m35i drivetrain into the X1, so glad to finally see that!

BMW continues to use a DCT in FWD-based vehicles from the Mini platform. Same story as the Mini, which is the same platform

Like the X2, or the Mini Wagon, this is FWD-biased AWD, similar to haldex systems

Mainly because the ZF8 you reference isn't available on FWD-based vehicles with transversal engines

Based on output ratings, no?
2L 4 cyl turbo = 3.0 L like power = 30i
2L 4 cyl high out = 3.5 L = 35i
3L 6 cyl turbo = 4.0 L = 40i

I might not have articulated my point very clearly - what I mean is that if I want a base X1 (engine, performance-wise), but I want nicer stuff and options throughout (beyond the limited options BMW provides), I am artificially limited because an X1 is "lower" on the totem pole than an X3, X5, whatever.

My analogy to the base Boxster is to reinforce the same point - it is the entry model for the brand, has the smallest engine / lowest performance, yet if I want to option it out to the moon, I can do so (and end up at 100K).

BMW artificially limits options on the lower numbered models, and I just wish it weren't that way.

I find the AWD setup on MINIs to be pretty good - I have a MT JCW Cooper Hardtop, but have driven the AWD JCW Countryman when my car has been in for scheduled maintenance, and that thing is a little rocket. Much faster than my car.

I am really interested in the X1 M35 - I am sure it will be even better.

You give BMW a lot of credit here.

Why did my 328 become a "330" in the LCI? The additional 8hp added to the 2.0T made it feel like 3.0L power instead of 2.8L power?

Yesss, I understand the difference. Been around the block a few times.

It’s not the $3500 option. It’s a $550 option (as standard) on 3/4 er. Passive.

What triggered you?
