Not strictly a macro lens at all: 300/4IS + 1.4x on a 7D. This combo gives a peak magnification of around 1:2.5. On a crop body like the 7D this gives a minimum frame width of around 2 inches - plenty small enough for monster grasshoppers like the SoFL variety.
The other nice thing is that this magnification is achieved with a working distance around 4-5 feet. Much better for skittish insects that resent having an MPE lens shoved in their face. |
