Anyone travel for work?
Just want to check any frequent travelers.
I travel about 4-8 times a year. But I usually stay from 2-5 weeks. I usually travel to Hungary and Mexico others would be Brazil, Malaysia and Argentina.

I've averaged around 50% travel for work for the last 5 years. Most of them within the US with 2-3 international trips per year. My trips are all one week engagements, except some of the international ones are two weeks.

i say about 15 times a year. One of the perks of working at the four seasons is that we get to stay at different properties around the world for free, so i average about 10 properties in the states and about 5 international properties annually. Sucks cause we still have to pay for air fare but if you average it out, a typical night at the four seasons is $400-500 so i guess it evens out.

For 5 years, I used to travel about 80% living in Chicago, mostly to West Coast when my territory covered 13 states. It was great but can get old after a while when you travel that much. I got a taste of every major city and got to experience so much - the culture, the food, sight and sounds, it was fantastic. I got to stay at some of the nicest hotels and eat the best food, but you also experience a multitude of travel headaches - delays, cancellations, layovers, storms, etc. You will build up so many free flights, hotel days and rental car days, you won't pay for a single personal vacation for years!
Traveling was great, but now that my territory has shrunk I only do local travel (max 50 miles driving) when visiting clients and I am much happier for it.

Being able to pack a lot in a little bag, not having a ton of people you are going to constantly miss if you are gone for months at a time (family, friends, SOs, etc) always made it easier for me to be able to travel for work. As many above have said, you rack up a ton of points at hotels, airlines, rental cars, and other rewards things when you do so. I travel about 85% of my time, and typically am gone going to multiple cities over the course of 4-6 weeks at a time. Also, as others have said, the delays, layovers, and other travel crap you have to deal with takes a toll. Constantly changing time zones will take a toll on the body too, many people I know get the common cold if they do it too often, though I seem to have built an immunity to it at this point.
When I just get to drive to see somebody, it's a reward, and I love it, though I don't know if I would change things at this point in my life. I'm young (26) and being able to see and do things I wouldn't is a huge plus for me. |

I travel about 40k - 50k miles a year good enough for Elite Air Canada (Star Alliance) but sadly some of the places I go doesnt have the ICH (Intercontinental brand Hotels) but I still get my Platinum status.
I am single and always make the most out of it when I travel One of the movies I really like is "Up In The Air" I had a similar experience without the emotional attachment in the end
