Canon T3i or Nikon D5100
I've seen both reviews about the 2 camera's and I'm trying to decide which one to get. Question to the folks that are into photography which one????? I currently have the P&S Canon G7 and want to upgrade to a DSLR.
TIA.....

They're both very capable cameras. The Canon has a bit higher resolution, but the Nikon has better noise and dynamic range that negates this advantage above ISO 3200 or so. Honestly though, the more important questions are:
1. Which fits your hand better? This requires visit to a camera store. I had a T2i for a while (same size as a T3i) and while I liked it, found it just a bit small for my gorilla hands. 2. Does either Canon or Nikon have particular lenses you're interested in that the other system doesn't? At the low cost level both systems are pretty comparable, but as you get sucked in deeper some significant differences arise (Nikon a bit stronger in wide angle zooms, Canon with a broader range of fast primes and specialty lenses). This may not matter to you for quite a while, but it ended up mattering a lot to me - my kit is now made up largely of Canon lenses that have no Nikon equivalent. Short answer: Both are fine choices. Enjoy. |

Good bottom line.
Go handle them and react to what you sense and feel. Dave (Canon guy, but don't let that sway you)

Was just shooting this past weekend with my friend Dana in MA. He has a D5100. Pictured below is his D5100 on the left and my 7D on the right. The image was shot with my T1i, which is the same size as the T3i (more or less). Dana bought his D5100 with Nikon's excellent 18-200mm lens. He gets some great shots with it and loves the versatility. Having seen my images and his, I'd have to say he does much better in low light (high ISO) shots with his D5100 than I get with my T1i. My 7D is about even with his D5100 in that regard, but it was a damn sight more expensive.
So like the others have been saying, go with whichever one feels better. Just be aware of the commitment as far as lenses go. Once you get a few in your kit, it's hard to change brands.

guy's - thanks for all your input, I'll visit the camera shop this weekend and check out both of them. Like everyone says I'll decide which one feels better.
thanks again....
