They build the Z4 but they can't do a wagon M3/M4??
Surely that would be easier to make and cheaper as well?
Collaboration with Toyota (i.e. Supra) made it affordable.

Toyota likely paid for a lot of the expenses behind it.

More likely a lot of dealers buying 2GCs and stuffing them into loaner fleets.

I see drop in sales but no much incentives or discounts to jump start sales

And it's a damn good car. If I were in the market would happily take one home.

Here are the Q2 sales number decreases for each brand (some have not released the numbers yet). Even Tesla had a slight decline despite the huge boost through Model Y.

I highly doubt Toyota would invest all this money into this model
My take was that the car was already pretty much developed
So the wait time was minimal till they get their hands on their version
I just don’t know why BMW was even interested in this model
Sales of the last generation were weak
So why make another one, even if it only cost you 25% of the total
Still doesn’t make sense

Same question could apply to the new 8-series, guess we'll never know the true answer. :

Well, what would an M4 wagon be in the first place?

And even if an M3 wagon would happen, BMW NA wouldn't put it on the their list cause the X3M/X4M makes them much more money, same thing as with the G21 M340i.

I was quoted 1830 a month lease for a M5 with 3k down. 1280 for a X3M by another dealer. Do these dealers plan on making up for their losses on over the top deals? Not like there's a pandemic, massive unemployment.

That's because there is no inventory left. These sales numbers are backward-looking. Since the initial collapse in late March and early April, sales have roared back and now there is no more inventory.

Remember, many of the people who buy BMWs (and Benzes, Audis and Porsches) have been sitting at home for months, still employed because they can work from home, and bored out of their minds because they cannot spend on travel, dining, entertainment or other experiential purchases. What can they do? Go for a drive!

Dealers are now going to have issues meeting their sales quotas not because there are people not buying, but because they have nothing left to sell them. It's actually sort of remarkable.

Insane! $1800 is a mortgage payment in a nice condo in my neck of the woods. Never ceases to amaze me how people embrace these kinds of debt loads and manage to sleep at night!

Or buy a luxury watch!

Sales of Rolexes and other luxury watch brands have exploded in the months since the start of the pandemic.
