As much as I would like to say yes, it’s gonna be a hard no for what we do
I personally don’t have a huge issue with them other than the usual “WTF were you thinking?” thought People judge on appearance. Always have and always will |

Went to U-Haul today to get some propane for the grill. Seems tattoos are a job requirement for this location; including face tattoos and piercings for the females.

Where we are, it's impressive how the volume of tattoo covered skin seems to be growing by the day. This is after four summer months noticing this at the supermarket where most of us are wearing shorts and t-shirts.
While I'm rarely close enough to stare and see what a tattoo is meant to communicate, I do find myself asking "What happens when you want to change it out?" I mean, more or less with some regularity we all change clothing, shoes, hairstyles, sunglasses and eyeglasses, cars, jobs, significant others, etc., etc. So how do you change a tattoo, wherever it's located, to something that creates and new and fresher you?

One constant I notice though, after awhile the tats look dull and in some cases quite ugly and ill defined, no thanks. |

I'm a hiring manager - I will notice your neck/face tats, just like I will notice what you are wearing, whether it's wrinkled, etc. The first impression you make is your resume/linkedin/etc. The second impression you make is how you look - then we start talking, and that is the 3rd/most important impression. I am a stickler for candidates who show up dressed too casually - but I will still give them a chance and some have redeemed themselves and moved forward. But basically, your appearance can set you off on the wrong foot - tattoos can and will play into that, but nothing is a complete disqualifier for me. This is for engineering - typically not customer facing, but sometimes is. |

For client facing works probably not bc our clientele tends to be more traditional and I get complaints about stranger things. Before we provided uniforms so guys would show up in ripped t shirts that got complaints
For my warehouse operation or transportation departments as long as you are the best qualified person you are in. |

What I have a problem with is the ridiculous hair styles, beard styles, piercings, crayon makeup, fake lashes, 3 inch long nails etc. that no one seems to bat an eye over. I feel most of that stuff is far less professional looking that most the tattoos I see.

Hear! Hear! Although I put tattoos in pretty much the same category.

And back to the tattoo topic, depends on the tattoo. I've seen some that are in-your-face vulgar. So no, I would not hire them.

From my perspective and in my opinion I have never in my entire life seen a tattoo that enhanced a person’s appearance.

regardless of the morality or rights or wrongs, we are all judged, primarily in the first 30sec's, before you open your mouth. You are judged.
Men, Women, black, white, turban, hijab, black shoes, brown shoes, suit, or ghetto wear. Add a tattoo into the mix, well, that's complicates things even further. As the CEO of my own company of (1 ) if I was ever to hire someone, there looks would be important, are they responsible looking, are they respectful looking, dressed appropriately, does the person look like they've just rolled out of the Ghetto looking like a thug, are they going to be radical, a problem employee. You can size that up in 30 seconds. Your gut feelings. If I was ever interviewing and the person did not display a kinship, or likeability in the first 30seconds, that's a no. Unless your in the Navy (got drunk and got a tat) don't get a Tattoo BTW my uncle had a cool ass tattoo on his forearm of a knife, made him look bad ass, he was in the Merchant, An old manager of mind had this big cross on her upper arm, she was nice, but for me (Christians aren't supposed to mark themselves or pierce themselves) so it's a bit of an oxymoron in my mind why you would do that,,, confused much ? and to totally emplify what tturedraider said, there is NOTHING you can add to the human body to make it look nicer, better, handsome, lovlier Your creator made your body perfect, when you came into the world you where perfect, what you were meant to be. sorry <soapbox mode off> |

Great post and fun responses, I have zero tattoos on me. But, I think tattoos are cool, I've always thought if I ever did it I would go full-on. Like get a complete 'sleeve' on one arm, and I may still at some point.
The young and very attractive girl who cuts my hair has both arms 'sleeved' and a slight neck tattoo. She's Columbian and can totally pull it off, she's just gorgeous. I was just with her for a haircut on Wednesday, and when she came to get me.....I'm a bit shy when I see her at first, she's just like WOW...but we quickly settled into a long discussion for the entirety of my haircut, and yes I always tip very well, close to 40% or more. In closing tattoos are cool and look great. Cheers, Merlin

It's deeper than that. The admonishment about not doing that is for religious purposes.

Slightly more than a neck tattoo.
“I’ve got too many tattoos now, too many to count. I’ve gone over ones I’ve already had,” she told the Mirror. “I’ll never stop, I tattooed over them because I’d ran out of space.” Her passion for tattoos has soiled her career prospects, as many jobs “won’t have” her. While she’s cleaned toilets before, it didn’t last very long, but she would gladly “go and work” if someone offered her a position. “I can’t get a job. They won’t have me. I applied for a job cleaning toilets where I live and they won’t have me because of my tattoos,” she said. “But, if someone offered me a job tomorrow I would go and work — I would take that offer. I expected this in life, I can’t fit in with people as I like to be me and I’m always going to be myself.”

I'm 58 so early on in the "office" era of my career in engery tattoos of any kind were a big no no. Then I started seeing them here or there but generally concealed. Now as a lot of field guys have worked up the corporate ladder the past 20 years I see full sleeves all the time. So, today I would look past it and just judge on qualifications and demeanor.
