All these battery related issues are giving me cold feet. And an idea

Hi. My car is due any day. But the reports of trouble keep surfacing. It's a 4 hour round trip to the "local" dealer. With snow and weather many days

Can we start a count on who's had problems that needed a trip to the dealer? Would like to know how many have and haven't needed a visit for service

Since many problems seem to be be battery or charge related, I'm assuming there's no voltage display on the dash. There are cigarette lighter phone chargers that have displays which will show the battery voltage when engine not running. Maybe a good idea to monitor your battery, and the charging voltage behavior (engine on)?

Also probably a good idea to keep tabs on the battery with a volt meter

my only non-scheduled dealer trip in the 12 months of ownership was for an airbag recall.

I’ve not had any problems so far (30e) Owned since March 23. Without going back to confirm I don’t know if the issues are specific to the ICE Vehicles.

It’s normal for new redesigns to have reoccurring problems in the first year or two. Essentially driving prototypes. But that’s the risk we all take and if it’s only battery issues then I’ll take that over something more serious.

My battery issues were resolved by disabling the proximity unlocking feature. With than disabled I now have to touch the door handle to unlock but that’s fine. Proximity locking continues to work fine, allowing me to just walk away from car and having it lock itself.

What do you mean by battery issues? Are you taking about high battery drainage?

I use my iPhone and Apple Watch as my key. My garage is next to my kitchen so the car would wake up all the time, draining the battery. I bought a battery tender but thats a pain to hook up. Disabling the proximity unlocking solved the frequent waking without giving up much in the usability of the car.

I would assume an ultra gauge or some other gauge that plugged into the OBD port would be able to display battery voltage and other voltages? I have one for my Mini Cooper and will probably get one for the X1 assuming there's an OBD port!
