Finally got my M parts from the dealer

Hey All,

Quick update on the last post that had to do with missing features on the M35i.

What I ordered:

M Door sills
50 Year M Valve stem caps
M CF Gas cap
50 Year M Center hub caps

The total for these parts were $516 and change. I had a good faith credit from BMW NA, and the dealer covered the rest out of courtesy.

Though this list is far from what should have come on the car, both in pricing and labor, I am content with what I got out of it, these are items I would never want to pay for out of pocket, so it's a small win.

The sills on the car do really change the way it looks from a driver perspective.

The driver side sill, I didnt notice at first, but once I went over with cleaner, was a little bent, nothing that would bother me that much, but it's some what noticeable.

I don't have photos yet, I'm lucky to even have had time to install them real quick (took about 5 minutes total including heating up a heat gun for the adhesive sides, and going over once with some cleaner and "polish")

I did recently review the press release and noticed they removed the language that states door sills, in both releases. They also updated the US version of the release to delete all the items that were flagged.

Somehow I think BMW and their dealers are being a little too generous with their goodwill credits and free gift cards. Their profit margin is so huge that a few hundred or even thousand dollars made no difference to them. (not that I'm complaining, since they gave me the $3100 7-year/100k-mile BMW warranty for free after they made a mistake on my order)

its just a piece that sticks on to the original fuel cap, a little disappointed to see that given the price they charge.

Thanks! But it still looks and feels nice to the touch, right?

Life is too short. Nothing wrong with spending a little money(within reason, of course) if the object makes one feels good and brings happiness.

It is quality made in it's finished product, and being that i did not have to pay for it, yeah it's great.

The sills however I did not notice at all today during a few errand trips. Odd, in my mind I dont think I register to look down there because the car initially didn't come with them.

Glad you got at least this from them. My dealer told me when I picked up to reach out to BMW NA, it wasn't their issue basically. So I will write them tomorrow.

When you can, post some photos of the door sill plates. Thinking about adding those myself.

Pretty sure it’s adhesive. No holes or anything for them to secure to.

Thanks! That's what I figured. I sure wish that the door sill covers are longer... they are too short to protect anything. In fact, I ended up putting clear PPF to protect the door sill protectors.(talk about being ironic)

they're adhesive.

i positioned mine a little more forward towards the pedals as thats where most of the foot traffic is going.

I agree they are pretty small and thin to really protect anything from major happening, but again, they were not on my dime, and they should have come with the car to begin with, but I can see why they only cost the $69. They're also quite thin, thin enough that they're crimped a little on one end most likely from the shipping or mishandling at the dealer parts dept (they did not seem like they cared to be there at all)

i keep forgetting to take photos, but will upload some when i have a moment

did the adhesive seem strong enough to be PITA if I ever need to take off my existing ones and put on new ones?

Thanks!

I would probably safely say you need to remove them very similar to how you'd remove the emblems. With a heat gun and some fishing line.

I will probably say that there is a high chance of bending them when removing, as they are made of very very thin metal.

Thanks!

Since BMW removed them for 2024 and later X1, I'm sure some Chinese company will come up with alternative door sill covers. Perhaps even ones that light up. Just a matter of time. By the time my current door sill covers wear out, I'll get the illuminated ones.

Does anyone have a copy of the original press release? It appears that BMW has since amended their June 28th release to remove the mention of M door sills and my SA said the BMW NA is claiming they never intended to include them.

Found one other site (other than this post) that appeared to include the original press release, but it would go a long way if someone somehow had an "official" copy. Thought I saw someone post a PDF, but maybe I'm just dreaming...

Let me check my files when I get home, pretty sure I have it still from some where

I saved a copy of the press release from when I bought the car.

See page 7 of the attached for the mention of door sills.

I am still negotiating with my dealer about what to do here. Does anyone have advice on how to arrive at a $500 parts/accessories credit?

while I'm all for getting what you paid for and fighting big greedy corporations for not delivering what they promised.... (I had to fight with the BMW dealer and finally got $3100 from them for forgetting to put heated seats on my order)

what about the following text on page 1? (which every car company's legal dept includes on almost everything)

"All of the stated model variants, equipment features... relate to the offering in the German market. These may vary for other markets."
