I did that job for a couple summers.
Paving driveways. Searing hot asphalt, in a dump truck. We had to climb up into the back of the dumptruck and help push the asphalt into the chutes. Standing on 300 degree asphalt. My Timberland work boots stood up to it, with only some minor melting. We moved the asphalt around, usually, with wheelbarrows, asphalt collected from the chutes of the dump truck. Hard summer work. The asphalt gets stuck in the dump truck, and needs to be manually moved toward the chutes (with the back tilted up). I'm guessing their dump truck didn't have the chutes in the door at the back, or the swinging back door of the dumptruck wasn't secured properly and it opened up unexpectedly. I blame the driver. Probably drunk or on drugs (all the adult full-time workers I worked with were drug abusers). |
