Break In Period for X1 M35i?
Sorry guys just crawled out of a rock, but can someone tell me if there's a break in period for the M35i? Picked up mine this past weekend and my sales guy says no break in required (I don't know if that means I can drive it like I stole it). Since it's not a true M I'm guessing he's right but I just wanted to confirm. And if there is, what specifically can't I do? (go over certain RPM? go over 80 mph, etc). Thanks guys and please be easy on me lol.

There was a 1000 mi break in period for my 28i, so I'm definitely surprised that they say there's none for the 35i.

I waited 1200 miles before i let the car go WOT.
There's somewhere on the web that BMW officially released where they say 1200 miles should be good for a break in period, i forget where but do a quick search on google and it will come up, thats what I did. |

I know BMW doesn't say this, but I still think it's a good idea to have the engine oil and filter replaced just after the break-in period.
Had my BMW dealer perform this. I had a $50 parts/service coupon from them, so it was only a little over $40. Even if I had to pay the full $89, I would still have gladly paid. Like the old saying, oil is cheap... new engine isn't. ![]() |

Driving a M35i with 3300 miles and it took probably 2500 miles for the initial bite of the brakes to soften considerably. I didn't do any specific bed in process so that was probably why. By soften I mean I get considerably more modulation now vs at the beginning it was very vague and you either were barely braking or you were aggressively stopping. Touchy.
