2025 X1/X2 Assisted Driving Plus (Hands Free) with Assisted Pro package...
I have a new 2025 X2 with the full up Driver Assistance Professional package which includes Hands Free Assisted Driving Plus on the Highways (up to 85 mph?) and Traffic Jam assistance (below 40?).
I've had the chance to drive on major highways around Chicago in the first 2 weeks of ownership and when I bring up the cruise control modes I see the distance only mode and "Assisted Driving". Turning on Assisted Driving works great and seems to handle all steering and braking at both highway speeds and bumper to bumper traffic. However I do have to lightly keep my hands on the wheel. My understanding based on the manual and YouTube videos is I should be seeing a notice in both the behind the wheel display and HUD that "Assisted Driving Plus Available" and I can either select it via the mode button or just releasing the wheel and the green lights on the wheel should come on and I should be able to have it drive with NO hands on the wheel so long as it sees me watching the road. I have every option, including Assisted Driving Plus turned on in the settings menu of Driver Assist options. This "Assisted Driving Plus Available" never appears on the highway and I can't select it. 1. Is this because of the specific highway I am on? I've read it is only on some highways that it allows this, I can't imagine the major highways around Chicago wouldn't be included but is there a way to tell? 2. Is it because I am not using the BMW navigation but have CarPlay up, either navigating or just showing the map? 3. Any other ideas of what is going on? Thanks! |

On the X1/X2, Active Driving Plus allows hands free driving up to 40MPH. The manual notes this among its extensive list of requirements:
> Vehicle speed must be less than approx. 40 mph/60 km/h. I’ve read that you can see where it’s available by using: Map > Suggestions > Assisted Plus > Map View. There’s also a feature called Highway Assistant that allows hands free driving up to 85MPH on controlled access highways, but as far as I’m aware it’s only available in the US on higher-end models (5/7/X5/X6/X7/iX/XM). I had the same misconception. BMW is not at all clear about the feature and borderline misleading. I drove on some major highways a couple of weeks ago and Active Driving Plus would only kick in when I slowed to 40mph and turn off when I went over 40.
It's a big time bummer as I thought I the car was going to help more on long trips. |
