Preconditioning using remote start?
I'd like to be able to run the car's, seat and steering wheel heat (plus air car heater when cold / air conditioner when hot) when I remote start the car. On previous BMWs, I set that with the iDrive, telling the car at what temperature I wanted them to come on (at least the seat and wheel heat). On the 2025 X1 I do not see any place to set the temperature at which I want those two items to come on when I remote start.
The only option I see for pre-conditioning is when I shut off the car; the screen tells me I can "pre-condition now" (which makes zero sense) or schedule a time. Neither option would appear to do what I want. I do not start my car at a regular time.....I am retired! ![]() Q: How can I get the seat and steering wheel heat to come on when I remote start? Is it also possible to have the car's interior heat to start also? I am thinking of days when there is frost/ice on the windshield. Do I just set those ON when I exit the car? I thought those setting would not be "held" once the car was shut off. Doug aka PaperSniper |

what I can say is that from the app, it's the least customizable experience I have seen to date. The subarus and toyotas we've have previously were able to input exact temperature measurements, if you wanted to run for 5-15 minutes, other features that the bmw app does not have. I think they've spent too much time and resources on the skins and the aesthetic of the UI instead of the actual usability of the UI. |

Personally, I don’t want the high battery draining seats/wheel to initially go on unless I turn them on & off myself. But that’s just me. Last edited by markronnie; 01-09-2025 at 08:35 AM.. |

Following...when I remote start, the driver's side seat and wheel start heating, but it doesn't seem like any climate stuff begins until I "turn on the car" which is something I thought I had already done. My previous 330 wouldn't turn on seats, but would at provide some cooling and heating to some extent before I entered.

You mention high battery drain if remote starting with the seat and wheel heat on.....but if the car engine is running, wouldn't that be okay? In my case they'd only be on for 5-10 minutes before I opened the car door. |

When I said high battery drain I meant to say that they drain/consume more amperage while driving or warming up than just about any accessory. That goes for the rear window heater as well. That’s why I’ve always kept any of them on for as short a time period than absolutely needed. Hope that helps. |

I can see where I can defeat the auto/on for the seats and wheel, but I do sort of like that in the bitter cold as I don't have to do it myself, but these don't really start until I get in and turn on the car even though I've remote-started it. I'm a week in with this new vehicle, so still learning. |

Glad it was useful. I’m one of those guys who LIKES READING the manual. My 2024 x1 went into production in early November 2023 & as soon I got a VIN # I began to read the on-line manual so with the expectation when I picked it up, I would know what it had. Truth is there’s so much more tech in the x1 than my Acura that it took me nearly 6 months to feel comfortable with the technology. I’m still learning things about it much if my drives. Lol.

I’ve already been through the manual once. Now I’m going back through and flagging anything I think I want to shortcut and settings I want to make sure I have enabled/disabled. |

I’ve also read through the printed manual several times which was included for most of 2024 that I hear is no longer supplied in the 25 models.
I’ve found pinning pages & content online easier to find than thumbing through the printer version. |

I don’t know how practical this may be on a phone, but iPad or other tablet the BMW guide app has indexed info, animations and links to the PDF manuals.
