New to BMW. Can I rename my X1?
Hi everyone!
I recently acquired my first BMW—a wonderful X1 2025 PHEV. I’ve come across posts where people have customized the names of their cars, but I haven’t been able to find an option to do the same. Is there a way to change the car’s name and have the app display a custom name instead of BMW X1 xDrive30e?? Thank you for your help. |

Congrats on the new car! I looked for a way to do this a few months ago, and I never found a way to change it. ☹️ If you figure out a way to do it, I’d love to know!

Not anything I’ve ever been able to figure out either… kinda stinks when you’ve got two of them any you ask Alexa to ask BMW to switch cars and she says sure, which one - your X1 or your X1
Same with our last 2 sets of X3s too so not a new shortcoming |

Decided to ask the ai chat bot…
BMW Assistant To change the vehicle name in the My BMW App, please follow these steps: Open the My BMW App. Select the "Vehicle" tab. Tap on the "Garage" (vehicle symbol at the top right). Select the vehicle you want to rename. Tap on the vehicle name to edit it. … I replied with that doesn’t work and got: If this process does not work, please ensure that your app is updated to the latest version. If the issue persists, you may need to contact the BMW Customer Support Team for further assistance. |

Hi yes - I included in my comment that doesn't work... I also forwarded that same interaction to ConnectedDrive Services Customer Care as advised and they got back to me and clearly didn't understand the ask (they provided some info I already knew about commands I can say to Alexa) and referred me to BMW Genius who just got back to me... here's the latest response: Regrettably, there is no way to nickname the cars in your My BMW App. As a workaround, you can apply different themes to the cars by going to the settings tab in the My BMW App and selecting individual themes for the respective X1. This in addition to being mindful of the VINs / Colors would be the best way to know which X1 is which. BMW always enjoys hearing from our valued customers and appreciates the time you have taken to write to us. BMW is fully committed to providing our customers with the ultimate product. An integral part of this process involves incorporating feedback from our valued customers, and I have already shared your thoughts internally about being able to Nickname the cars in App. You can be assured that your sentiments will be heard. For your convenience, BMW Genius Team members can be reached via the BMW Genius Hotline Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time at 1-844-4GENIUS (443-6487). |
