Cleaning interior of engine

Hello all,

I opened my hood and there is so much dust and dirt on all of the components. Mainly due to age. I am thinking that I would like to clean the engine bay.

Does anyone have any suggestions to cleaning the components inside? I am not looking to clean the inside of the engine itself, by rather the components that are in the bay.

I am thinking to really clean it 100%, I would have to disassemble and take everything out. Not too afraid to do that. But if there is a way to clean like 80% of the things while keeping everything inside, I would rather do that.

Any suggests on what products to use or how I can do it?

This earlier thread addresses cleaning the engine compartment. You do not need a pressure washer. Have a good read!

Thanks so the general gist of everything is power washing is ok but do it with caution.

Probably best is to use a spray bottle with some simple green and lots of cheap microfibers to get to the more sensitive spots. Rinse with light pressure.

And don't do anything stupid (like spraying water on electrical connectors).

I may take the safe route with the cloths just because the car is 20 years old and the state of seals (although ok because I can drive it) is unknown.

I prefer PW over a Hose. There is less water introduced into the engine bay as such too

Just cover what's needed, a lil APC brush on what needs to be brushed.
Pressure wash rinse. The PW knocks off dirt off areas I can't reach and it's LESS water than a hose.I don't have qualms using one.

Just take a blower and blow the engine bay afterwards to get water out of the nooks and crannies like the top of a strut top, etc that may hold water. If you don't have a blower, I suppose a decent drive afterwards achieves the same

U stated it's a 20 year old vehicle...the belts might be a bit squeaky for the initial drive until it dries.
