again that was made nov 18 there an update for the storm that resolves many of the issues people were having, I personally agree that the storm was really bad when it was first released but since then RIM has been working on fixing all the bugs.

I have the update. It helps a little, very little. It should not have been released until it was further along. Didn't they learn anything from what happened to Apple with the 3G?

Ive had the storm for about 2 days and im almost 100% sure im gonna return it... its aesthetically pleasing and very pretty, but almost every action takes 3x longer than it should, and the typing is horrendous, it takes forever and is frustrating... chances are ill be getting a blackberry bold

3x - that would be speedy. I would say 10x.

I have a Bold right here - I ran side-by-side comparisons. There is no substitute for the real keyboard (also compared to the iPhone).

I read the review, typical things we hear.

OTA upgrades can solve 99% of issues.

If you can't get over not having a physical keypad, so be it. There are other devices that will suit users better.

Goodluck getting consistent 3G download and upload speeds w/ AT&T.

i checked the blackberry storm specs and it has a sim card pre installed along with a 8gb memory card preinstalled. now can the 8gb be replaced with a higher one?

also is the storm an unlocked worldphone? now obviously i can't stick my t-mobile sim in there but any unlocks yet?

HTC is a manufacturer, not a phone

so now that you have edited your post to specify which of the many HTC phones you meant (and technically, it´s the T-Mobile G1), did you mean to recommend a mobile that doesn´t properly work with the BMW?

Or is that just outside of the BMW area and for smartphones in general?

Yes, the Storm can currently support 16GB. In the future it will do 32, 64, etc.

The sim card is only functional for international use. When you are in the states, you will run off the CDMA network and not GSM.

Only partially correct. If you purchase your BB Storm from VZW, then it's correct. If you purchase it elsewhere, it does not run on CDMA at all

i heard the storm was pushed out in the states with a firmware version that was not completely bug free. i think they have already released another firmware version.

the ones i was testing here in Toronto ON had the old firmware and they are being released with the latest ones here.

Jonathan:

Thanks for your usual great reviews of all things automotive and tech.

Have you tested the compatability of the Bold with your car?

Well, gee, gosh <blushing>

Testing takes multiple cycles over multiple weeks. I ran the Bold in the 730d I drove to Slovenia last week and it seemed fine but I need to test it in my car for a few days to really make a determination.

Also, the 730d is CIC based while my car, being a 2008, is CCC based. That shouldn't make a difference according to BMW but...
