Stelvio Pass
Doing ED I figure to setup a Forward Operating Base at a Gasthof in Innsbruck. There are several day trips planned out of the FOB through the alps. One thing I've always wanted to do (since I saw the original Italian Job) was run the Stelvio pass. I love this vid I found on YouTube, it has a quirky soundtrack, an overheating POS, and a heckuva amateur editing job.

I didn't look hard enough - here's the downhill run. There's a good chuckle as the camera meets a couple of cyclists going the opposite direction (about 4:50 in). And why anyone would drive a caravan (RV) on that road is beyond me! GRRRR . . . frigging aluminum overcast.

Looks like the road dates back to the 1820s or so - hence its narrowness. I've driven cars, with my wife as passenger, on some pretty twisty roads (the Berthoud pass, Trail Ridge road among others) and she doesn't look forward to them. I suspect she'll not enjoy the Stelvio pass at all. ; -)

Ah, here's the opening scene from, 'The Italian Job' - can't remember how old I was when I saw this the first time (probably a teenager).

I've done Brenner Pass a few times, and it was nutty. I like how the Renault driver made the film in double speed. It adds to it. That music was, erm, interesting.

definitely OK then. From what he was saying... end of March it starts to clear out. But April (especially first part of) can also bring snow & ice. From May on, it's aces.
