esquire vs gq vs details
i'm looking for a good men's style magazine to sub to and i'd rather not have them all clump up on the coffee table. which of these three would you recommend? i've picked up few gq issues outside of airport terminals and waiting rooms and thought it was a pretty good read

not sure about esquire or GQ but i have been told Details is for gay mem. have you ever noticed the covers. it's always men on them and the articles and fashion are very feminine.

i got a free subscription and i didn't notice it until someone pointed it out. after knowing this info, i noticed the covers always had men modeling in it and the articles were very inclined for borderline metro/gay men. i started throwing them away as soon as they arrived because i didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea.

Esquire releases supplementary guides annually called the Big Black Book. These are much better than any of the magazines IMO...IDGAF about an interview with Shiya LeBuof or what shitty albums are being pushed...the Black Books are much more topical, succinct, and relevant.

GQ and Esquire are similar from a style advice standpoint. They both push the same products at the same time based on whatever the fashion houses tell them to.
Esquire writing has historically been much stronger than GQ if that interests you. GQ will have the occasional informative or entertaining article depending on the subject matter but Esquire articles will more consistently wow you with their writing and ability to make you want to read them, regardless of the subject matter. Minor point - the Esquire iPad app is heads and tails above the GQ iPad app. GQ is $2.99 per issue for what's basically a pdf version of the magazine. Esquire is $4.99 per issue for a true electronic issue (better navigation, links to extra content, easier to read article formats, etc.). That said, I regularly read and enjoy both. They're my airport staples. |
