I'm guessing you're on FCP7 now? how would you compare the two. We're thinking of switching to Media Composer 5.5 but no one wants to relearn new software lol

my editing now is all small projects and i do all of the post, so FCP is perfect for me. in my old production office, Avid was best because we were working with Beta and HDCAM media, full rack of decks, two of us editing, Automatic Duck and After Effects etc.... i remember it was a bitch working with RED media and having to transcode to DNxHD which would take forever.
The only time we used FCP was on a machine with a Kona card importing from HD decks. Basically, Avid is able to do a lot of stuff that I just don't need anymore, so the simplicity of FCP (without losing any of the functionality that I require) is best for what I do now. I'd say it'd be easier to switch from Avid to FCP than it would be to switch from FCP to Avid.

what's wrong with Premiere? avid is the best imo, but it's also a different league. FCP, I haven't used it much, but I like Premiere more. Maybe I'm just used to Premiere?
and I love how there's so many digital production folks here

It has its pluses too. I liked keyframing in PP way better than FCP, integration with After Effects is amazing too, also the shortcuts in premiere are better thought out. I mapped some of my FCP shortcuts to be like PP |
