Another great month for BMW. It was expected.

Lol the Z4, 6ser and 7ser sales went in the toilet. Surprised not to see higher 3/4 ser sales with the introduction of the new M3/M4 but I guess its too early to judge.

I3 sales look very low for a volume city car. Surely BMW will need to sell thousands to recoup investment ??

M4 and M3 sales will likely be less than 10 percent of 3/4 volume right?

The biggest opening in the market and where BMW should be selling more is the 2 series. The dealer should be selling that car and it should have volume on par with the x1.

If I had to guess, I'm willing to bet A3 and Mercedes CLA sales are hurting the 2 Series pretty hard. They're not as expensive as the 2 Series, come with 4 doors, and are every bit as luxurious.

Audi can't seem to build the A3 fast enough and with the S3 hitting showrooms in a few weeks....

Right. It would be interesting to see the M sales separately. More interesting would be to compare the sales of the F8x after launch to the E9x M after launch when it first came out.

I don't think BMW has an easy way to track that. It's why the F8x M3/M4 is the first M car to have a different code than the standard 3 Series/4 Series so they could track it more effectively.

They need to get a new 7 series out stat, much of the sales decreases lately I bet are from S-class eating into it but the decline has been going on for a while. Great increases on their bread and butter 3/4 series though.

BMW needs a 2 series gran coupe to compete in that segment.

I have been screaming this for about a year or more.

Way too many BMW fans still driving e36 four doors that feel like they haven't found a replacement, because the new cars are too big and too heavy and too wide, particularly e36m3/4 owners.

I've had two people I know that I've had to steer away from BMW. They were in the market for a $35k-$45k car that's sporty and loaded with nice features (xenons, navi, back up camera, sport package, etc etc). Neither of them wanted coupes so the 2 Series was out and a 328i with those things can inch towards $50k.

So in both instances I had to recommend the A3. Audi is really going after the younger crowd because, unlike most German cars, the A3 already comes standard with things like leather and xenons and a dual clutch transmission (it's the only available transmission). BMW doesn't really have an answer for that yet.

I could've suggested the Mercedes CLA too but the car looks like crap.

Exactly. I am simply amazed that BMW has not acknowledged this segment.

Sales are up 9.8% for July. I think Bmw recognizes it but doesn't care. Too many people leasing a 320i just to have a BMW.

Would love to see this broken down further, rather than having the GT lumped in with their respective 3/5 series numbers. Let's see just how poorly those are selling...

Well the Z4 is a pretty crappy sports car and it's getting close to being 6 years old. So that's pretty self explanatory.

The 7er is close to 6 years old as well and there is the brand new S-Class to fight up against as well so again, not that hard to believe.

The 6er is a little odd though. I can only imagine the S-Class has affected sales of the Gran Coupe?

The real mystery is the X1 and the X3.

Not sure about that; every VIN number denotes exactly which car it represents. BMW has the data it needs to track M cars separately already; whatever the reason is for M cars not being separated out in these reports, I don't believe the chassis code being shared with the base series cars is a factor. I would imagine it is simply not needed in these particular reports.

Wow. If it wasn't for the A3 which obviously had zero sales previously sales would have been down significantly. Almost every other model is down. Audi needs a refresh on a lot of their models, especially the A4/S4.
