BMW U.S. Sales Up 4.2 Percent in October 2013

BMW Group U.S. Reports October 2013 Sales

BMW sales up 4.2 percent
MINI sales down 3.2 percent
BMW Motorcycle sales up 23.4 percent

Woodcliff Lake, NJ - November 1, 2013… The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported October sales of 33,274 vehicles, an increase of 2.9 percent from the 32,339 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, the BMW Group (BMW and MINI combined) is up 10.6 percent on sales of 295,474 in the first ten months of 2013 compared to 267,267 in the same period in 2012.

“The momentum of October is a good indicator of what’s ahead in the final 60 days of the year, especially with sales of the new X5 and the 4 Series beginning to have an impact,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “All of the leading indicators – sales, order rates, showroom traffic, finance applications – are up, very good signs.”

BMW Brand Sales
Sales of BMW vehicles increased 4.2 percent in October for a total of 27,574 compared to 26,451 vehicles sold in October, 2012. Year-to-date, the BMW brand is up 12.8 percent on sales of 240,139 compared to 212,848 sold in the first ten months of 2012.

In October, best performing vehicles included the BMW X1 with an impressive increase of 60.4 percent compared to October 2012. The BMW 3 and newly launched 4 Series, both leaders in their segments, also ended the month with an increase of 20.4 percent compared to October 2012. The BMW 5 and 6 Series increased sales 18.7 percent and 19.6 percent, respectively, over sales in October 2012.

BMW Pre-Owned Vehicles
In October, sales of BMW used vehicles (including certified pre-owned and pre-owned) increased 23.4 percent to 15,502 vehicles compared to the 12,563 vehicles sold in October, 2012. January through October, BMW used vehicle sales are up 9.2 percent on volume of 147,638 compared to 135,139 in the same period of 2012.

MINI Brand Sales
In October, MINI USA reported sales of 5,700 automobiles, a decrease of 3.2 percent from the 5,888 sold in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, MINI sales in the U.S. are up 1.7 percent on volume of 55,335 compared to 54,419 in the first ten months of 2012.

MINI Pre-Owned Vehicles
In October, MINI used automobiles (including MINI NEXT certified pre-owned and pre-owned) continued its year of record breaking, smashing last year’s October sales with an increase of 30.4 percent to 1,962 vehicles from 1,505 sold in October, 2012. January through October, MINI used vehicle sales are up 19.1 percent on volume of 18,143 compared to 15,233 in the same period of 2012.







BMW Motorrad Sales
The BMW Motorrad USA dealer network sold 1,067 motorcycles in October, an increase of 23.4 percent from the total of 865 motorcycles sold in October 2012.

Maxi scooter sales rose by 73 percent in October with 57 units compared to 33 last year.

With 219 deliveries compared to 136 in October 2012, sales of F-Series middleweight machines increased by 61 percent while the G-Series maintained last year’s volume with 56 units.

The arrival of 2014 model R 1200 GSW inventory drove R-Series growth of 52 percent with the water-cooled boxer the best selling BMW motorcycle in October with 314 units.

Similarly, new colors helped drive growth of 4 percent in superbike sales with a combined total of 142 HP4 and S 1000 RR models delivered to customers in October.

Not surprised the X1 is killing it again. As someone who spent 4-5 months driving all variety and specs of BMW's due to my old car being in the shop, it's the best driving non-m vehicle BMW currently makes (hydraulic steering FTW!). That's why I bought one.

Do you guys work for BMW or are you part of their press department? I always thought bimmerpost was a blog/forum/news website for BMW enthusiast which by definition means it's a unanimous site that is not influenced by anyone. There is just way too much "BMW connection" here in the form of these sales figures or a lot of positive PR that just does not sound right. Also, I havent read or seen this anywhere being publicly admitted but if BMW finances you or has control over what goes on here in anyway, it may be a good idea to come out and state it in official capacity.

It'd be great if bimmerpost acted as a gateway/messenger between BMW and rest of the world rather than what it does right now which is sort of a one way street. I dont ever see the site admins of this forum create or support threads that criticize BMW in any way. There is always this "BMW is awesome" motto which isn't right (and yes BMW is awesome, but you have to maintain balance).

To add to that (regarding the point why this doesn't sound right), I have been following this website for several years now and not once I have seen a news article about BMW US sales figure going down and don't tell me they never went down, I know for a fact at least during the 2007-2008 recession they went down and continued to go down several months in a year in 2010-2011. If you guys are going to report sales figures, I guess you should report them when they are down as well.

Valid points. However you must realize that many come here for more than the usual enthusiast related posts. I've been on this site since 2009 and it has grown to become a cetral place where all enthusiasts and those looking for guidance to read whats new and poke around.

It has become a information hub. Sure we can look at autoblog or BMW Press for this info, but this site is convenient and visually appealing.

I don't know. We decided not to buy the 2014 x5 to replace my 08. I just can't get over the butt on the new x5.

Went with the 2014 GX and feel happy about the purchase.

Just keep in mind, all dealers artificially inflate their numbers at the end of the month. So these figures aren't exactly accurate.

Hello all, I am one of those new BMW 128i owners.
I know very little about BMW at the moment, since I am an ex-Saab person.
Since I have to reply to one thread to become a full member on this blog. I thought I would do it here.
Also maybe someone can help me with a question. In the 1 series owners manual it states that the car should have a First AID kit (inside the trunk) and a emergency breakdown triangle in the trunk lid.
I called my sales person and asked her this question, and she told me that is ONLY TRUE in cars that were purchased through the European delivery.
Is my sales person giving me a line of crap?
I would just like to know if I am being liked to...

There is being a BMW fan site and coming up with BMW related news articles such as this which calls for open/equal press in which case you really need to be transparent and act like a messenger between the community and the company which will mean releasing news/posts that will anger the company as much as the ones that pleases them, THEN there is the other way which is basically acting as BMW's press department paid and controlled by BMW headquarters where you "pick and choose" what you release to public.

They can be EITHER, no problems, as long as they come out openly and admit to it. This whole "we are bmw fan site" from the face of things but "we'll never publish anything bad about BMW" is not really a nice way of doing things.

Look at sites such as macrumors or Canon POTN forums. They are all fan sites, but when the time comes, they are not scared of bashing the company they support at the same time or releasing negative news. For instance, canon rumors.com is also a site that works similar to this one, but yet you will always see news articles about Canon's numbers going down or cutting down of future sale forecasts. Here it seems like they don't want to release such news because they are afraid of losing their exclusivity with BMW. Well if BMW works that way, then tough luck.

+4.2% could be good news or bad depends on how you compare it. Like it was mentioned above, the broader market was up some 16%, I was thinking how come BMW was having a bad month in the US.
