The 1955 Studebaker President was a one-year-only model that was unusually well-equipped for the time, with power steering and brakes standard as well as radio, etc.

The Tatra T87 sedan was produced in Czechoslovakia during 1936 to 1950, with some interruptions during World War II. It featured all independent suspension and a rear-mounted 3-liter air-cooled V-8 of magnesium.
Ferdinand Porsche is said to have taken some inspiration from Tatra for the design of his iconic Beetle and early Porsches.

One of the most interesting automotive museums is the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville, Tennessee. They were displaying not one but two Tatras when we visited.

In 1930, Cadillac introduced a V-16 model in a number of body styles. One of the rarer ones was the two-seat Aerodynamic Coupe seen here. The V-16 stayed in production until 1940, but the vast majority of cars were built in the first year or two.

This 1925 Julian prototype was very unusual: Air-cooled six-cylinder radial engine of 4.4 liters and 60 hp mounted in the rear. The body of the car was aluminum. The driver sat on the centerline with small seats on either side and to the rear.

In late 1959, Ferrari introduced two sporting models on shortened wheelbases -- 94.5 inches (2,400 mm) versus 102.4 inches (2,600 mm) -- and with slightly higher engine output (280 hp) from their 3-liter V-12s. For the first time on a street-legal Ferrari, they also featured disc brakes.

The Berlinetta (coupe) version was the 250GT SWB, while the drop-top version was the 250GT SWB California Spider.

These two have become some of the most sought-after and valuable cars from Ferrari over the years. 168 Berlinettas were built, of which 42 were alloy-bodied competition-oriented cars and just 56 Spiders were built.

The Berlinetta (coupe) version was the 250GT SWB, while the drop-top version was the 250GT SWB California Spider.
The 250GT SWB was campaigned successfully in various races by multiple teams, but technology does not stand still, and Ferrari introduced a new competition-oriented Grand Touring model in 1962. The new Ferrari 250 GTO followed the same pattern as the SWB before it: 3-liter V-12 (now with 300 hp), disc brakes all-around and a live rear axle. Federacion Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) regulations stipulated certain conditions that had to be met to be considered a GT car for racing purposes. Ferrari stretched the criteria to some extent with the 250 GTO; the car was *not* a GT (if we accept that a GT is a performance vehicle with at least a dollop of luxury.) Nevertheless, the FIA accepted the car as a production vehicle, though only 36 were built in two years and Ferrari thus added the O for homologation to the car's designation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_250_GTO

Mid-engine configurations were coming on strong in motor racing. Enzo Ferrari was quite conservative but had to acknowledge the superiority of the mid-engine car. While the 250 GTO had a good run for a couple of years, more was needed. Ferrari had built mid-engine V-6 racing cars and decided to build a mid-engine "GT" car. In November of 1963, the new mid-engine 250 LM (for Le Mans) was introduced. This time, however, the FIA balked at Ferrari's liberal interpretation of the homologation rules and Ferrari was never able to run the car as a GT. In addition, the "250 LM" actually had a 320 hp 3.3-liter V-12 and should have been labeled 275 LM. Enzo's thumb on the scale worked on that aspect and the 3.3-liter 250 LM it was and remains.

Just 32 250 LM cars were built from 1963 to 1965, far short of the 100 units required for homologation -- giving credence to the FIA's refusal to bless the car as a GT. Nevertheless, the 250 LMs amassed an excellent racing record, including winning the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans outright, a first for Ferrari.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_P

These 68 cars -- 36 GTOs and 32 LMs -- remain the Holy Grail of Ferrari collectibles today.

As far as calling them Grand Touring machines, you can judge for yourself with interior photos. While it is possible to fit deluxe interiors, the cars do not have roll-up windows or other creature comforts expected in a GT.

The GTO nomenclature resonates strongly in the automotive world, as evidenced several years later by its use by Pontiac and in successive GTO models by Ferrari over the years.

The 250 LM is not as well-known, but the current Ferrari 296 GTB borrows styling cues from its long-ago descendant.
