I keep our natural gas and electricity bills on the monthly average. Just because you see such big swings. It's much easier to try to make a budget when it stays "relatively" the same.

Then we do stuff like blow $200+ on two meals over the weekend. But that's why we try to keep the rest of our expenses low.

Yeah, this is no longer a mild climate here and our electric bill soars in the summer.

I will also say that I keep the thermostat at 70 all year long.

Sometimes I drop it a degree or two lower. Only time it goes higher is during winter, just because the living room/bedroom have ~20ft ceilings and the dining room is about 13-14.

Those faulted ceilings can make it hard to keep the place cool. My previous house had them.

And warm as well since all the heat goes up. We can have it set at 73-75 and still need sweats and a blanket in the living room.

Parents just finished the basement and we haven't gotten the chance to hook up a battery backup for the sub pump.
