Yeah as a result of the follow through. If the initial contact had been with the head, then I agree it should have been a penalty. But the initial contact wasn't there; it was with the back of Cutler's jersey/pads.
Again, I'm going to say I can see why they called what they called in real time, but I would really expect at least one of the zebras to have seen those gigantic mitts coming up in the air open and contacting Cutler (to negate the POV that it was a forearm), and maybe to see that it wasn't his head that was first contacted by Suh's right hand (but I can see how they missed that real time). I can see how they missed the call, but that doesn't mean that I think they should have missed it. They're professionals and they make mistakes from time to time, but I think that they should have at least been able to tell it wasn't a "forearm shiver", nor was the blow directed at, or initially landed at, the back of Cutler's head. He's too damn strong, and too damn mean, and the result of a "technically" clean hit is that it looked too damn violent for the situation. You get penalties called that way, and maybe he should have just gone after the ball or tackled him in a less violent manner. However, just because there is a "better way" of doing something, that doesn't mean the original way of doing it was wrong. He's putting a target on his back. His reputation is being developed, and along with the fact that the Lions reputation will not give them any leeway in situations like that, he has to be more careful with the lil guys out there.... Whether or not Suh sticks around Detroit, he will be a force for years to come. I'm sure he hates losing, based on his competitive nature, so I wouldn't be surprised if we only have next year to show a turnaround before he demands out of Detroit. |

And that would have never been called if it wasnt for how hyper sensative the league is being about head hits this year.

However, I think Suh was a victim of the circumstances besides just the league crackdown. He put a lot of strength into that push which caused Cutler's body to jerk incredibly violently and the hand eventually did make its way to Cutler's helmet and pushed his head forward. That combined with the league sensitivity, and the Lions' obvious absence from Goodell's "golden boys" list made it the prime target for a flag. Do I think it was a penalty as per the rulebook? No. Is it a penalty in today's NFL? Yes, apparently so. I'm not going to act like the Lions haven't benefitted from it. I don't remember who it was, but in the past few weeks, I know we did benefit from a really shitty roughing the passer penalty on a key 3rd down failure late in the game... I think we lost that game anyway, or maybe it was the Redskins game, but anyway, it's not like we ALWAYS get the shaft. I'm just frustrated at the league-wide crackdown and how ridiculous it's getting. Even without Suh's hit, the league has been absolutely fucking stupid about this protecting the players shit this year. Stop the helmet to helmet contact, and the spearing with the helmet never helps anyone, but besides that, there have been so many shitty calls based on these pansy rules and petty enforcement they have now. |

In live speed I thought it was a penalty. In slow speed it clearly was a 2 hand push, no penalty. Either way it's not reviewable, so I think given the live speed hit I would've made the same call and thrown the flag.

I'm still hoping for the Packers being able to retake the division but it seems like they have the tougher schedule than the Bears. Bears hosts the Patriots next week but after that the Pack is at New England Hopefully they can keep it close and have an awesome Week 17 when they host the Bears

You can't score if you don't play.
He got a lot better about that this year; I think his ratio was 6:1 TD:INT. Ain't that the truth. |
