Here are a couple of mine.
First is a few sea urchins I shot on a dive. Before: After: And a sunset shot that I should have taken closer to the water. Photoshop to the rescue! Before: After:

did you get one of those dive camera cases? or did you just use one of those waterproof point and shoots?
I just picked up one of those point and shoots so i can play on vacations, but it's only good to 30 feet..... which i really don't plan on going much deeper then that ever |

I've got a Canon S95 for my point and shoot with the Canon made dive case to go with it. It's really nice to be able to shoot RAW underwater now. Makes adjusting for the color shift and light loss at depth a lot easier.

How deep can you go with it? Snorkeling deep, or much deeper?

It's rated to 130ft/40m. I tested that out on my old camera/dive case combo (also a Canon setup) and it held up quite well.

It really is a whole other world, both in things to see, and also in photography. What works on land does not always work in the water. Lighting is WAY more important as the red end of the spectrum falls off very quickly. As an example, this is the same gauge at the (nearly) same depth with out flash, but still with "underwater" color balance correction. Things get very blue very quick under water.

I have more dive shots, but I'll have to post them up in the Shot of the day thread since I don't have before/afters.

Kind of. It's really just the color/white balance. Your can also tweak the color channel mixer to some effect. RAW files are way easier to correct for than JPG. Most of my dive shots are JPG only though, as I had not upgrades yet to a RAW capable point and shoot. If you are semi serious about underwater photography I would very much suggest the S95 and case as a rig (or similar). It is WAY cheaper (by hundreds if not thousands) than a DSLR case, and much easier to manipulate under water. As a plus, 720p video quality is pretty darn good too.

It would definitely be an interesting feild to get into as a photographer, probably not too many underwater professionals out there. |
