I need to get out and shoot it but time is the issue. It's pretty sweet looking.. the fit is extremely tight between the upper and lower (little to no play). All my AK magazines fit with very little wiggle (Magpul, Circle 10, Izhmash, and Tula). Typically my AKs (PSA/Arsenal/etc) have a hard time fitting the bakelites due to the magazine width scraping the magwell, requiring a bit more force. With the PSA KS-47 it doesn't do this. It fits in perfectly.

I read online that one person had issues of it cycling fully but it could have been the ammo or possible a too small gas port.

Why no gen 5's?

They haven't made gen5 guns in 357SIG yet. I had to spend the city's money before the end of the year and couldn't wait for a gen5 announcement. We're currently running gen3 31 guns from 2008 so everyone is switching over to gen4s. I brought up switching to 9mm (I really wanted the new Glock 45 gun to be our duty gun) but we don't have any issues with people having recoil issues with 357sig so we decided to stick with it.

That was stock from PSA. Out of the box, using iron sights I could reliably hit 200 yard steel. Quite shocked.. and very happy. I use this as my demo rifle.. and have sold quite a few people on getting one.

Went to the range at lunch for some practice with my CCW weapon and home defense guns.

I carry the Sig Sauer 1911 Ultra Compact 45. The "nightstand gun" is a trusty Colt 1911 5" 45.

Nice. I really love it. I'm a 1911 guy due to my years in the military. I've tried so many DA guns and just can't shoot nearly as well as I do with the SA 1911. So I've sacrificed mag capacity for accuracy. I also have smaller hands, so a single stack is best for me. It's a win.

Props to you for your LEO service. My step-dad was the Chief of Police for my town growing up. Retired now, but between then and now he also worked for USDOJ- CRM-ICITAP.

I like 1911, but can't use them as my CCW. Not enough practice on them. I'm more use to carrying my M&P9C. Reliable and accurate. I have a Kimber I shoot in a blue moon. Want to get a old WWII Colt 1911one of these days. I've shot a really nice STI.. but couldn't justify spending the $$$$.

Neat! What type of process does your particular city go through when it comes to evaluating: caliber, make, model, etc.?

Were any other make/models considered?

Are you involved in any of the testing/analysis with any particular vendors, etc.? Interested in hearing your likes/dislikes when it comes to potential duty weapons.

That definitely would be interesting information. I'm a FFL, and have wondered how the process works to get contracts with the police.

When I started in ‘98 we were issued double action only S&W 4946s in .40. They were old then.
In 2002 we traded in some old Tommy Guns and didn’t want the money to go back into the general fund so we left it at the dealer and decided to try new guns.

I was not part of this process since I was still newish. It was decided to stay with the .40. I was already carrying a Glock 19 9mm and HK USP Compact in 357SIG off duty.

We tested:
Glock 22 gen3
HK USP Compact
S&W Sigma
Something from Walther as well.

The Glock won. So we switched over to Glock 22s.
In late 2007 we had a shooting where a lady took eight center mass rounds and was still able to reload the shotgun she was shooting at us. Upper management deemed it a caliber failure. I said it was because we were still using ancient black talon ammo and the lady was fat and had a big coat on. Soon after we had a guy rob a store and he was shot once. .40 cal round struck his temple in the front, bounced off his skull and exited. He then was able to run across five lanes of traffic, a parking lot, another five lanes of traffic and tried to hide under a van where I eventually dragged him out. He lived. Once again, upper management said caliber failure. Chief: Let’s switch to .45. I was slowly taking over the firearms stuff from the old timers. I told the chief switching to .45 would necessitate new holsters and mag pouches too. I knew .40 wasn’t a problem but I’d gotten tired of paying for my own 357 ammo so I suggested Glock 31s to the chief. He asked what research have I done on the round. I said none. FAMS and USSS use it. He said good enough. So in 2008, I switched us to Glock 31s.

In 2018, I wrote a proposal to our new chief saying I needed new mags, springs and night sights for everyone and I wrote another proposal that it wouldn’t cost much more to just get all new gen4 31s. I floated the Glock 45 as a duty weapon if we switched back to 9 but found that it won’t fit our holsters with WMLs so we decided to just get new gen4 31s. If they made a Glock 45 version in 357SIG I would’ve pushed it and gotten new holsters for those of us with WMLs. The gen5/19X/45 use a standard sized rail making the front of the gun a little taller so there are holster fitment issues with attaching a light.

I can retire in 2023 so I doubt I will be around for the next time there is a changeover.

We don’t put stuff out for bid. We just contact local LE distributors and ask for samples. Then once we decide, we buy. They all have set agency pricing for new guns so bidding would just slow down the process. Buy from LE dealer that’s 45 minutes away or two hours away? We chose the local one.

Great information thanks. Wow.. 8 rounds of .40. That was some shoot out. Hope none of your fellow officers were injured. I know you guys go through a lot more than the public sees, and I salute you for it. Not sure if I could handle all the stuff you guys deal with day in and day out.

As a lifelong NY-Metro resident, firearms are anything but the norm. That being said- I love to see how people choose and build their firearms. It reminds me of cycling... I was a competitive cyclist for years, and just looking at how someone built up their bike you could tell their priorities. I feel the same way with firearms.

Had a chance fire my KS-47.. So far it worked great. I really liked it. Didn't checked the accuracy, but it was hitting a 8" steel over 100 yards out without issue when running a red dot.

I had a count down clock on my desk top....pissed my boss off. I retired with 30 years 8 months and 12 days on my 55th birthday. Been retired 978 Days now.
