The SL 63 AMG rimms look like bad copies of the current 911 Turbo wheels!!

Anybody agree? I think that's terrible.

Best regards,

CSL

This is definitely one...weird car

I think it looks great in the first pic, very muscular and strong, a nice balance of roundness and squareness, but in the second pic I think it looks absolutely hideous...

it kinda looks like it got a bunch of bee stings and is flaring its nostrils, know what i mean?

Well, this is a much better looking car in comparison to the facelifted SL550/600 imo. Not crazy about the wheels (I agree with HKS, the design should be a little more original), but I really do like this new lower air dam that Benz seems to be using on the SLK55 as well. It really suits the new headlights; much more flowing. The overall design is much more consistent in design in comparison to the non AMG variant. Instead of mixing those blocky headlights with curvy sheetmetal, it seems more all-out blocky in general. At least it works together instead of acting against each other.

Not crazy about the rear diffuser. I don't like how the middle protrudes higher. It should be consistent all the way across. The side gills aren't as ugly as the non-AMG's either.

Overall, I think it's not too shabby, and I'm sure it'll grow on me after a while. On a positive note, at least it's not as "feminine" looking as the outgoing SL.

Btw, that second pic is not the SL63 guys! That's why it looks ugly. It doesn't flow at all.

Driven a SL500 the handling is very shabby. Never going to purchase a $100k car that handles like that!

not at all.

the 63 models (are faster than and) replaced all the 55 models.

the 65 models are basically V12 versions of the 63 models (which are all V8s) and are the most exclusive, expensive and quickest of the bunch.

there are no longer any 55 models.

55s had the Supercharged V8 with 470-490ish horsepower, depending on model (if we're talking about the SL it was 493 I believe, some older E classes as well as the W203 C class had a naturally aspirated version of the V8 with around 360 horsepower)

The 63s have a 6.2 liter V8 with well over 500 horsepower and on top of that, the new engine is lighter than the old one so they are measurably (but not too much) faster than the 55s.

65s are a whole different beast with twin turbo V12s with not only 600+ horsepower but well over 700lbs/ft of torque (and that's after MB limits it so they won't melt the transmission)

If there's one thing AMG does very well is make extremely powerful versions of Mercedes Benz's cars.

On topic; I think the new SL (especially the AMG) is a great looking car in its own way but I liked the old S class better, the S class has always been very elegant with flowing lines and the old one stayed truer to that design philosophy and was more reminiscent of the 300SL Gullwings...Standing on its own merits, though, the new SL looks pretty amazing and aggressive.
