I never got into trouble like you like I said I live below my means. And when I was in trouble I always went to my parents since I learned its better to be honest and tell them quickly rather than try and hide it and get beat down the road. Oh what a web of lies we weave when at first we try and deceive.

I doubt everything in your room you paid for... But lets not go into that..

So you live at home and dont pay rent... Get a job $3k can be made in 4 months working 20 hours a week.

Better to run to mom and dad right now and use the good old bank of mom and dad when its small amount of $3k then to keep putting it off and have it turn into $5k then $10k.. Most parents will help you out and loan you the money and will teach you the lesson by making them pay it back plus a little when you have the cash.

how many times do I have to repeat myself.. If I could afford working 20 hours a week don't think I would have? I am in school, and that is more important. I could ask my parents but I'm going to (man it up, like someone said) and take care of it myself. I could pay it off eventually, but I am trying to avoid the interest rate... again . You are right, most of the stuff in my room my parents bought.. my bed, blankets, sheets, pillows, desk, chair, drawers, tv, curtains, lighting, don't forget the electricity bills, water and internet. did I mention food?

Like I said 20 hours a week is nothing kid.... You dont know nothing yet and have a lot to learn especially being fresh out of high school. And you cant avoid an interest rate unless you hit up the bank of mom and dad. Burn this into your brain. There is no such thing as a free lunch, and your bank of mom and dad is as close to a free lunch as you will ever get.

No its not rude. Its the real world.. Even I have a lot to learn but I am way ahead of you. This isnt high school anymore where trying hard is all that cuts it. Your 19 your able to enter into serious contracts now and you have to be responsible and read the fine print.. Like I said run to the bank of mom and dad for help now and let it be lesson learned about credit cards, its a very common thing for college students to do, and your parents will be happy you came to them now and not in 3 year with over $20k in debt.

Listen I think its wrong to charge us college students 17% interest but hey its life. But a college loan from a bank is something you are going to want to talk to your parents about and not something you should do on your own since you young and banks are evil and want money for a lack of better words. They write up contracts that even lawyers have trouble understanding.

But ask yourself this will a college loan to pay off your debt for none class related junk help you? No you will suddenly have more money to spend and you will spend it and end up worse off in the long run. I am not trying to bash you but to only tell you what most students do.. Their is no shame going to your parents at your age and admitting you made an error and need help, just get a summer job and pay them back. Then dont make the same error again and start saving up and move out of the house so you learn more about life.

I know they would pay for it, my parents were going to but I insisted they not.. as for the loan, that is why I was asking this in the first place.. now wouldn't it have been easier to just post this from the start??

And like I said dont get a student loan (student loans should only be used if your parents dont pay for your classes in this case I assume they do and you need money for out of school activity) since you do pay interest on it.. All loans you end up paying interest on.. You need to take care of your current problem and fix your spending habits, adding more money wont fix the fundamental problem of not being fiscally responsible.

Dont worry even our government struggles with this concept...^^^

1. cut your credit card as you clearly cannot manage them right now. Either pay cash for purchases or don't buy them.

2. cut back on social life. you still have 3 years of college to have fun. sacrifice some, and pay down the debt as best you can.

3. Student loan to pay off credit card---only going to work if you do #1 and #2. Otherwise, you will just add more debt that you will have to pay in the long run. Even though the interest is low, you still have to pay it. If your habits do not change (paying for stuff on the cc without being able to pay off the balance, and having an active/costly social life) you will definitely accumulate the credit card balance back up.

Good luck.

See the thing about low interest student loans is everyone sees the LOW interest and ignores that.. Well the laws of compounding interest work against you adds up over the 4 years in college, and most students dont start paying back till after grad/med school which can be up to 8 years. So that 4 or 5 % really adds up and comes back to bite you in the ass. And trust me a lot of students fall for this and in the worst case some even commit suicide since they have so much debt built up and lose hope.
