Wow this thread certainly answered my questions. Although a lot of your responses are extremely farfetched and are un-realistic scenarios, but I guess you can't be too safe in today's world.

Yes, in a round about sort of way. You can do serious ID theft to about anyone you want, if you work at it. All you need is a target.

Because I've seen Internet Detectives at work. People have way too much time on their hands, and if you piss off the wrong group of nerds on the internet it can become a very big pain in the ass. On one forum I used to be on ages ago, some douchebag arranged for this one other rather stupid members car to get towed and impounded because he pissed him off.
Long story short, the pictures showed that he lives in an apartment complex. Using Google Maps and tracking older posts/pictures they determined which complex. They called a towing company and pretended to be the owners and told them that the tennant moved out weeks ago yet was still parked their and the pass in his window was no longer valid. Towing company shows up and takes the car to impound. Internet Drama thus ensued.

Possibly. As others have chimed in already, there are folks that comb these types of sites for a living and with just a little digging through their other posts they can piece together a ton of personal information on you and steal your indentity. The authorities and/or insurance investigators are another reason not to include your plate.

Because they spend their days pissing people off behind the safety of their computer monitors. In real life, that's not so much the case.
