The hype around the Model 3 is misplaced. People compare it to today's cars.
I think they need to compare it to 2020 model year cars, which is how long it will take tesla to get to a meaningful production level, where you can walk in and buy one. So by the time Model 3 hits meaningful production level with meaningful option mix, there will be a whole host of competitors including this BMW. |

If BMW is going to put electric motors in its mainstream cars the i brand is meaningless. It should be absorbed into the mainstreamof the company.
They sure didn't teach running a business like this at Harvard Business School.

3, 3gt, 4gc, x4, and now a 4gt. That's a lot of ways to put 4 doors on a small sedan. Wait, maybe the 4 GT will be a two door like the 4 series implies. Wait, the x4 also has 4 doors. Wait, I'm getting dizzy. BMW model progression is getting more complicated with each new model. |

Now if they want to go hybrid 4GC...but leave the body style alone, 'fine'...but anything close to the GT series and this will be the one and only 4GC that they'll get a sale from me.

Bmw makes in GT style so if it flops they can blame it on that. But seriously if bmw only projects 100k sold per year they are either conservative or there is something that will suck about this car they are not telling us. Also I highly doubt it will be 40k and a bmw at the same time

Sexy? Someone up above also said they are more practical than station wagons. Wow. Everyone is welcome to their opinion, so here's mine. GT's are NOT more practical than wagons. They have less headroom than sedans or wagons and less cargo space than wagons. Where is the practicality? And as far as sexy? X6, X4, 3gt, 5gt, 6gt, whatever, they are all hideous.

I wouldn't count on it. It will be extremely difficult for BMW to beat the Model 3 on price/features.
What BMW needs to justify their higher price for the segment is better cooling, longer range, weight reduction, faster charge time, better handling, better steering/road feel, and better overall performance. Musk's focus on car as a taxi will provide an opportunity for BMW to compete with a driver-focused car (to the extent that a full EV will allow). Tesla will offer a 3 second Model 3. Will BMW offer a "performance" option as well? |

I see the GT in the same light as the X4. They are both filling the gap between SUV/CUV and sedan/coupes. The X4 is a SUV/CUV with a touch of sedan/coupe. The GT is a sedan/coupe with a touch of SUV/CUV.
