Sure, the guy in the Benz could have killed someone the next night... but the squid could have caused a fatal accident by his actions. |

How do you protect against a lunatic in a car? A lunatic on a bike.

The danger to innocent motorists is a drunk driver who's already rammed three cars and has fled the scene. If the on-site cop doesn't care, then citizens have to get involved to protect ourselves. If cops do their jobs then citizens don't have to do their jobs for them. But don't worry dude, if someone sues, maybe you can defend the motorcyclist! |

The key word is trained. This guy obviously didn't have the common sense to recognize when he crossed the line. (By the way, I hope you wear better gear than the guy on his GSXR when you ride that ZX10.) It's like people who are licensed to carry concealed firearms. The required training is pretty minimal in California (in the counties that actually issue them): a background check, a four hour class and getting eight of ten rounds into the target from ten yards. In some other states, it's even less. If I'm standing in the checkout line at 7-11 with my Slurpee and a couple of armed robbers walk in, I hope anyone legally carrying a gun has sufficient combat training to assess the situation and make a rational decision, instead of going into cowboy mode and engaging in a full-blown gunfight without regard for danger to the innocent bystanders. |

As far as the gear I wear, here is a picture of my gear. While it's at the track on a S1000RR, it's the same gear I wear on the street. |

I wadded a new R6 on a ride on Highway 1 when I lived in Mendocino County, avoiding a car that was on the wrong side of the road in a no passing zone. I got a ride into the nearest town and called my neighbor to pick me up. He brought me a t-shirt, shorts and flip flops. We went to the emergency room in Ukiah because I thought I'd broken my wrist. (It was actually my thumb, but that pain can be hard to trace.) The triage nurse saw the contusions on my knees, where the mesh liner of my rs-Taichi leathers had tattooed me on impact, and started going off about riding motorcycles in shorts. I invited her to go into the parking lot and look at the thousands of dollars in thrashed gear (Arai helmet and Taichi gloves, along with the suit) in the bed of my truck, and told her I would've been a life flight transport if I wasn't wearing it. |

Yes. Keith Code's Superbike School. More specifically CSS or California Superbike School. That pic was taken at VIR.
