BMW will be better value? Are you not taking depreciation into consideration?

Of course...
Created 4 yr. spreadsheet (beginning with cash price) including:
Depreciation
Rebates (financing+CCA)
Maintenance costs
Investment loss on capital (@4%)
Incremental taxes on pretax withdrawals
Incremental future PP taxes
Fuel costs

BMW represented a savings of $281/month over 4 yr ownership. That was enough (for me) to buy the X5.
The Cayenne had better resale in %, but $ depreciation was about equal. The BMW had a significant advantage in every other aspect. This comparison was based upon msrp difference of $11.8K.

I know, lots of things have changed. I went from a Cayenne S, to an X535d (my wife wanted the X5).

Build quality in the Porsche was far superior.

Overall, the poll results are quite interesting. Definitely had preconceived notions the x5m would have a landslide lead.
Definitely not. The forum is full of Porsche fanboys who for whatever reason hang around BMW-specific forums. It's quite sad. Imagine being in the Mustang forums and just droning on and on about how much better BMWs are than Mustangs...

We even have the resident Porsche troll in this forum. He has been banned a few times but continues coming back. Every single one of his posts is anti-BMW, yet still he hangs out in the BMW forum. Am I the only one who thinks it is a little odd?

Interesting I would love to see that spreadsheet and what you had for maintenance costs between the two. Cayenne should be a good bit more reliable. I did a similar exercise and found the Cayenne to be a better value.

Maintenance cost was one of the more significant variances. I had $3,800 for the Cayenne (based upon my Macan S history), and a ballpark estimate for the X5 of $1,600 (that may be high?). Investment loss was the largest variance. BMWCCA and finance rebates were also important, since it only cost me $200 in short term interest to qualify for the finance rebate.

Garage List
I couldn't see spending this kind of money on an SUV, so my answer to this is colored by cost considerations. Some of it would come down to the driving experience, which can't be assessed by a list of stats. From a cost perspective, I would don't need to spend nearly $130k on an X5M comp with options. For nearly the same performance and with the options I'd actually go for, I could spend $115k on a regular X5M. I could also be happy with a GTS optioned to $115k. If I'm spending anywhere near $130k on these vehicle, I'd probably just go with a Cayanne Turbo with premium package plus being the only option for about $133k.

So, at $115k, I'd have to drive both the X5M and GTS to determine which one feels better. At anywhere near $130k, it would be a low optioned Cayanne Turbo all day long.

The E63S looks awesome, I had never really considered it but after watching the Doug Demuro review and a few others it's definitely on the radar for the next car. I also cannot imagine spending $115-130k on a brand new one of these or X5M/Cayenne when their value will drop like a rock.

Can't speak to the new ones but when we cross shopped GTS vs X5M it was a no brainer. GTS is such a good truck. Damn shame they don't make them NA V8 anymore
