They are de-contenting to make more money. https://www.reuters.com/business/aut...25-2021-06-21/
Does that mean selling the cars for 25% less cause in typical bmw fashion, the prices will go up so their profitability will skyrocket(I'm being sarcastic about reducing the cost)

What's with the removing of sensatec dash board on a ton of models? I really like it, adds the the quality feel vs hard plastic.

Pretty sure new M3/M4 doesn't have it either as the photos look like hard plastic.

Or is this their way to make you pay a lot more for full leather?

Wireless charging was the worst option they had. Added $500 and as others have said just heats up your phone and barely charges it. If my kids are using my hotspot the charger just keeps it at its current percentage! My $20 wireless chargers do a much better job and phone doesn't get nearly as hot.

Probably yes. Look at their strategy to move to FWD platform for the 1 and 2 series: much cheaper to produce, but nothing of that went into a price reduction! In the contrary, prices went significantly up!

Never had a problem with mine. But lets not forget that with wireless charging you get enhanced blue tooth. Does this mean that will be gone also?

I have the wireless charging in my 21' X3. All it does is overheat my iPhone. I have had my car since the end of March and I have used it only a handful of times. I also saw that the icon Adaptive Laserlights were removed from the X5/M. Is that do the chip shortage, because it is standard on those models.

Maybe that's the issue with wireless charging too, certain chip they can't get right now.

No mention of X5 Luxury seating package, driver assistance or Harmon Kardon. Wondering if I should wait a few months or get on a list now for an order of the 45e.

That is probably the case. Also, that is probably why Ambient Lighting has been removed as well over several models.

What's the point of buying a luxury brand if they remove all of the luxury!
Exactly.

Of course not. Eventually they will just add stuff back as a package and charge more for it (after Covid related supply issues). Spend more for what used to be standard, much like the maintenance programs now.

I do have the wireless charger when I do use it I have to admit it barely charges within a 45 min drive it probably goes up 10-15% points. If I'm using Apple car play (navigation) it basically keeps the phone the same percentage. Don't have the over heating issues tho.

What I am mad they removed is the 360 cameras. Granted it's not something I need, the self parking & back up assistant I only use as a flex when I'm introducing someone to the car. But having that front bumper camera is very useful.

Unfortunately as UK member of these forums this information obviously doesn't apply, as it pertains to the US option packages and specifications - which can vary significantly from what we get (even entire models like the non-XDrive G20 M340i etc).

I realise many of the forum admins and major contributors are US based, but it would be really great if we could get more info like this for my market. The BMW UK press site and BMW UK main site just don't seem to carry anything like this - we know they make these kinds of changes, its just pretty rare that you actually get to see what they are and when they take effect.

The net effect is that its difficult to accurately figure out what you're getting in terms of looking to buy either an approved used car or if you might be looking to order a new car. Obviously not a show stopper, but not ideal either.

One bit of important information that maybe got drowned out in all the text: The M8 Couple/Convertible is back (with sharply decreased prices):

Removal of Sensatec dash is disappointing. It's odd that newer cars will have lower quality interiors.

Good catch - $18K drop. I still think they'll need big discounts to move at $130K.

They are de-contenting to make more money. https://www.reuters.com/business/aut...25-2021-06-21/
This reeks of the 2010 decontenting BMW did with the E90. Back then they removed seat back pockets, the hifi audio system (no tweeters or amp on the base system), alarm prewiring, and even the wood trim above the gear selector. They ended up adding some of those options back in the latter half of 2011.

This time around they're cutting more. No ambient lighting? Really?

Not sure how long this model decontenting will last. Interesting that they're removing some upgrade items from the list (HK audio, stitched dash). All I can say is that at least in 2010 their cars still looked decent and were still fun to drive…

Can’t blame the lack of fog lights on the chip shortage.

Generally a pretty negative tone coming out of this announcement from the forum. But what they said is that they are going to reduce Production costs in order to maintain competitiveness with Daimler (Mercedes) and VW (Audi). That does not mean de-feature nor necessarily mean lower quality materials. If they do those things it would kill their value proposition to the consumer, and you may as well buy a Camry. They need to continue to provide a high quality product and a comparable cost to the premium segment competition. What I read is that they are probably going to continue to invest, and demand that their suppliers invest in automation, and other things that make manufacturing processes less costly. And it probably involves a continued move toward simpler, battery powered/augmented engines that are lower cost to manufacture. That seems to be the path of the entire segment. I just dont see the premium segment converging with the mid-tier segment any time soon. BMW just needs to keep pace with its value proposition, and that is not a bad thing.

That's because it is still the 21' model online. The 22' is a refreshed model and it has not been updated on bmwusa.com. It should be any time soon for the site to update.
