Yep, a few rare cases when sold by private dealers/retailers like Enthusiast Auto Group, but for Bring a Trailer this is a new high.

E46 M3 will 100% be a $100k+ car. Given low mileage(sub 25k), correct color, slicktop, manual, unmodified. Those examples will be few and far between in future.

Obsessed Garage Matt just bought a E92 M3 with 850miles for $120,000.

It's been almost four years now but the car Richard Griot bought in 2010 at an RM auction for $48,400 with buyer's premium included (with 69 miles -- M5board member BigGar sold a number of near zero miles M5s and Z8s in 2008-2010) sold at a Gooding & co Pebble Beach auction for $176,000 (about $194,000 in 2022 dollars).

I think that still is the current record public auction sale so far.

Wasn't there a $186,000 e39 M5 that sold at some point, too?

If inflation continues and the crap we have all over the world continues to sow, we can certainly expect high prices.

They made far more E46 M3's than they did E30 M3's But E30 M3's are not going for more than 75K on average for excellent condition.

When CSL's start coming from EU when they reach 25 year, then I can see them hitting 100k and maybe some of the limited production series.

IMO CSLs will very quickly, if not immediately, be over $200,000 for good ones, once they hit 25 years/importable.

I’d hope not. If it had the e39 M5 motor, sure. The e46 M3 desperately needed more hp and loads more torque. Having said that, I sold my 05 M3 Comp (Carbon Black, Cinnamon, 6 speed) for $25k with 40k miles on it years ago…

My e46 M3 makes more horsepower than my e39 M5

But what actually meaningfully improves the e46 is not power increase— it’s weight decrease, and that’s where the CSL delivers.

CSL's already $100k in UK/Europe for a decent one with 60-70k miles. Low mileage ones have sold for upwards of $140k already and thats without the USA 25 year rule.

For the time when it arrived on the market in 2000 (2001 model year), it was an astoundingly fast car. It's just a touch, if that, slower than the E39 M5, but that doesn't really show up until 100+ mph. Car and Driver test data for the two cars is almost the same in the 1/4 mile (trap speed where the M5 is 1mph faster). For two completely stock as new running cars, it's a driver's race to see which wins in the 1/4...it's very close. I was trying to decide between the two at the time and ended up buying the M5 and owning it for 15 years.

Here's their quote about the E46: Our M3 arrived in July 2001 and quickly captivated the hotshoes in the office with its amazing acceleration and sure-footed handling. With 1940 miles on it, we took the M3 to the test track and measured a 0-to-60 time of 4.5 seconds and a standing quarter-mile of 13.1 seconds at 107 mph. The electric-blue M3 also showed great grip, managing 0.87 g on the skidpad and stopping from 70 mph in 161 feet. Not bad for a car that can hold four adults and a decent load of luggage.

It really really is a shame that most of us normies will never get a chance to drive a legit CSL. Very envious of you, but you deserve it!

Inflation price increases vs demand price increases are totally different forces.

If inflation brings E9x prices that high, it does with every other car as well...E46s, Porsches, C7 Vettes, etc. It's not exactly a surprise when everything goes up.

However within a normal monetary climate, I just cannot see E9x prices routinely in the $100k range.

I really love the E9x platform, but I firmly believes belongs in the price bracket it resides in, inflation aside. There's a reason it hasn't shot up too high. There are other, better cars at higher price points. The market isn't unaware of these things.

Looking at the graph for the E46 has it a steady $30k until 2020 when covid hit and then it jumped to being $40k + the last couple of years.

I could see it even out when the chip shortage starts winding down at about $50k for nice examples (could still be some time, I know) but then very steadily climb back up when more of us old ICE heads want to get a hold of the classics.

Basically, whenever the current generation of say 35-45 year olds have their children leave the house they will have more money, I could see a bump when that happens again. You would have mature individuals, established in their career, and want that car that was "on their wall" or "on my desktop background" as the E46 was for me.

Everyone is free to do what they want, but this makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. He's already owned like 3 E92 M3's, why buy this one? I don't see what this adds/replaces to an already low mileage E92 M3 he just has/had.

To be honest, I stopped watching his videos a while ago.

yeah, I get anxiety listening to that guy. Its just too much. Like sure take care of your cars but I highly doubt he is even enjoying the cars since not a spec of dust can fall on the car before he has a meltdown and has to fully detail the thing.

I think he is giving away the other M3, aka sell raffle tickets so he will make a good amount on it. Apparently that M3 was a front collision so you know the dude cannot sleep a night knowing that, so he will raffle and probably get a ton of money giving it away and now has a 800 mile version. I will say this, he does sell some good products but not a very humble dude with some major OCD issues.
