My MK7 GTI had a significant amount of chatter at crawling speeds. I think it is normal with dual clutch transmissions.

I only test drove the X-line X1 and it felt reasonably smooth, but I was not in heavy traffic. The transmission in my GTI could be quite rough in stop-and-go traffic. It sounds like the X1 transmission is not as fast in manual mode, but I don’t think that will bother me.

Interesting. I test drove two different M-Sport X1 23i for total of about 30 miles and didn't experience any low speed judder and found the manual shifts to be quick and seamless. I've had Audi DSG boxes and normal TC boxes on many cars so knew what to look out for and the BMW offering was faultless under test. Clearly I'll have to wait and see how my actual car behaves when I get it!

Could be a difference between the hybrid motor engaging at low speeds, vs the gas only version we get here in the States?

Possibly, it would help if we knew which variant posters were referring to when reporting these issues.

When it comes to Auto Start/Stop and transmission complaints, I think 99% have been those of us in the states.

Quite possibly the MHEV makes the difference. I wonder why it didn't get to the USA?

Many in the US seem to turn off stop / start anyway so why bother fitting an advanced version probably. I'm being a little provocative but from posts across all the BMW forums the balance of US vs EU posters who want to switch it off in any car is far higher across the pond.

Maybe BMW thought why add the extra tech, just a thought. Shame as it really is seamless and makes any concerns about stop start, negligible. The number of times I've had issues or concerns with Stop / Start on the X3 is zero, I have more issues when the engine is running to be honest.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I deactivate it and would like to have it permanently turned off because it interferes with my driving. I would love to have one as seamless as you say it is, and would have heavily considered a hybrid since electric is not an option for me.

You’re probably right that more Americans complain about the auto stop start mess, but that’s because it seems to be much more noticeable in the one version of the X1 that’s available to us. I,m betting that if we would have been able to get a mild hybrid (or phev, or BEV) we would have been complaining about the auto stop start a whole lot less. It really is horrible in the only drivetrain available in North America

But on a positive note the US do get a more powerful engine. All very strange.

Yeah I presume it’s legislation in other markets that’s pushing for it from an eco perspective. You don’t seem to get it in Auz either but it’s there on all models in the EU. In the X3 forum even though the. MHT is there many still complain about it. Genuinely don’t know why it adds not takes away from the enjoyment for me. It’s very fast acting and there is no jolt as the car stats either.

The EU does get sound sapping OPF filters and the US doesn’t so in a nice straight six that’s a nice thing not to have.

Favorite feature the mileage. Least favorite the engine start/stop, not a fan of it in any of my cars including my X3M40i, but it seems worse in the x1. Too much of a delay that they tell you doesn’t exist.

My favorite feature so far is the handling and acceleration while just driving around. It's fun to drive and I haven't even really pushed it yet or gone into sports mode.

Least favorite: I know this should be a one word answer but I can't help it and add a few equally annoying things;

- How tight the bolsters are on the sports seats for anyone who's larger than average.

- The lack of "hidden" storage in the form of a deeper console area. Or how the small compartment of the arm rest is too narrow to even put a cell phone in there.

- How the sports seats don't have lumbar support as a default option when much cheaper vehicles have it. This should not be an optional feature and makes BMW look cheap from a company PoV.

- Even with the auto start/stop set to "off", I find leaving from a stop/red light the take off is not smooth as it feel it goes from nothing to wanting to speed away like a bat out of hell.

Even with all those minor complaints I'm still enjoying the SUV. Who knows if those minor things will make me dislike it over the life of the vehicle. Time will tell.

I normally turn off the auto start/stop, just don't like the idea of putting the engine starter components through the excessive cycles created by this operation.
However yesterday drove around the city with the auto start/stop left on to test out. It worked fine on my X1 M Sport, the engine restarted quick
didn't have any issues with smooth take away from traffic lights. I applied the gas pedal gradually and this ensured no jerky start up.
Will still be turning it off and would like to be able to set the 'Off' mode as the default!

Had a test drive finally, loved the handling and acceleration, sensatec dashboard, m sport steering wheel.

Did 30 miles, motorway, A road, B road and I felt in love with it.

We've already booked for M Sport with Techplus and Comfort pack. And one thing is the test drive model wasn't full spec, so couldn't actually experience the HUD and Live Cockpit Professional experience. Can anyone confirm whether the AR view is available in HUD as well, as BMW website says Live Cockpit Professional is available on HUD.

I don't think so, I believe it shows the augmentation via the Screen on the dash to add the arrows to the live video. The HUD displays the directions on the lane, junction, exit of the roundabout you need to leave at.

I'm sure someone that has it can confirm.

It seems like, BMW is updating their pages and I saw HUD mentioned under Live Cockpit Professional. Saw thought that's something special.

That’s how mine works. And the arrows only overlay at certain times, like when you get closer to where a change in direction is needed, not constantly like when you’re on a miles long road.

There are a lot of little things that could be considered “not fully worked out”. I’m in my 2024 for less than 24 hours but I spent a lot of time leaning iDrive 9 so i could be fairly acquainted with it.

The auto start/stop has yet to catch me off guard. I drive a lot of rental cars so I’m kinda used to it. (Haven’t sat in traffic yet)

My biggest annoyance is with the horn honking when you exit the car when it’s running. I do this all the time so i guess I’m gonna have to get used to shutting off the car.

I love the idea of comfort access and getting the light show and puddles (the new puddles are way nicer than the old ones) but i do a lot of things near my vehicles and i load/unload lots of stuff. On the first day i shut that off.

Lastly. If you order the M Sport package with the big brakes you don’t get a spare tire. The donuts don’t fit over the brakes so you get a slime patch kit. “Mobility kit”

I replied in this thread (a few posts above) about a year ago and after a year of ownership I still have pretty much the same opinion as before which is (without just copy/pasting my previous answer:

Good:
- Fun to drive, handles well.
- I feel sports mode actually feels like "sports mode" for a SUV of this level.
- I'm still in love with the look of the SUV and love the idea of "owning" a BMW badge vehicle.

Bad:
- This is a personal opinion but I've come to realize I hate having to adjust climate controls via the onscreen menu. I have no interest in using using the voice controls.

- I've had 3 instances that have had rattling/vibrating/squeaks around the SUV. They've been able to fix one but another one only happens randomly and they couldn't replicate it when I brought it in.

- Total lack of console storage, this is really annoying.

- auto on/off - this is garbage. I use a shortcut to turn it off but it's annoying to always need do that when I get in. I guess it's too complicated for them to allow us to permanently turn it off. I know this do this for a specific reasons but it's still super annoying.

- As other have said, having the horn blast away when you just want to run back into the house for a sec but the SUV happens to be running.

- Being unable to turn off the lights (or even the normal headlights at nighttime) - I think this is regional (I'm in Canada). It's super annoying when it's super cold outside and I have to choose between blinding other people in a parking lot or freezing for a bit while I'm waiting for family members.

I know that number 1 & 2 are "me" specific as others love the touch screen and haven't had any rattles. The climate adjustment on the touchscreen takes a lot enjoyment out of the SUV for me. Being in Canada the temperature tends to have pretty wild swings so I'm always having to change it. I miss tactile buttons and will never buy another vehicle without them. (again, I know this is a "me" thing). Heck, if I didn't have many... many years left to pay off this SUV I'd ask my local dealership to see what it would take to get into a X3, used or not just to get away from the annoyance I have with the X1 :-)

I think that's enough negativity for now. Just like I said last time, I still like the SUV, it's just that now the honeymoon phase is completely done and I'm already thinking of "what's next" even if I have many years to go before I can even think about changing it. :-(

Just wanted to give you my honest opinion.

Without a doubt my favorite and most useful feature is the Drive Assistant Pro package. I didn't know what to expect when I got it but it's easily my most used and appreciated feature.

It blows away the lane guidance in my Acura and it feels like I'm living in the future when I use it. A lot of my driving involves a highway full of idiots that results in frequent backups and slow downs. The full auto green mode when in a traffic jam is incredibly helpful. Full hands off the wheel and just let the car do its thing.

You still need to pay attention and have a hand on the wheel most of the time but I have definitely noticed less driving fatigue on longer drives. Some of this may be due to my runner ups too:

- Drive feel and handling, interior comfort, quietness and smoothness. I wonder if anyone complaining about these have drove a Japanese car recently. Auto stop start is better and less annoying in the X1 than my Acura as well.
- Interior and exterior design.
- Using my phone or watch as my key. I don't even know where my fob is at the moment.
- Overall utility for such a small package. I can tow 3500 pounds.
