I got the .77 increment only yesterday. The change was an adjustment to the HUD relevant to new EU regulations.

So maybe since you’re not part of the EU anymore it might not be pushed to the UK… not all markets are treated equally and the rollout of newer versions is usually done gradually over weeks.

Makes sense, my car isn’t as posh as yours also as I don’t have the HUD which may be a factor.

So, I’ve just checked to see what I get on the screen in the car when the flap is open.

It does indeed say the flap is open, I’m almost certain this didn’t come on yesterday as I was using the reverse camera on the central screen and would have seen the warning.

I now know that my dealer is almost certainly going to knock me back.

That said, the flap opened on its own which I can prove via the video.

I’m really not sure now however it still doesn’t alter the fact that the flap shouldn’t have opened in the first place.

I know now that I won’t get anywhere with BMW as I’ll be blaming them saying ‘it shouldn’t have opened’ and they’ll be blaming me saying ‘well the car did warn you it was open’.

I best get myself a touch up pen and try repair the chips of paint missing from the cover that dropped off the hinge and onto the floor.

Just checked and yes the message does indeed disappear when you put it in reverse, which I think you were doing, and reappears when you go forward again.

I can’t see anywhere where you can enable an audible warning which would help but then again yours shouldn’t have popped open in the first place.

I would still have a go at the dealer but I can imagine the excuses😳.

Good luck.

Exactly, I’ve flicked into reverse as soon as the start button was pressed so I’ve not seen the warning, the car makes that daft start up noise when you press the start button so maybe I’ve missed any audible warning too.

I’m still waiting on my dealers reply but like you say, excuses will be funny.. that said I now know I’m not blameless either but the fact remains it should not have opened in the first place.

Thanks again for your help.

Booked in for the 22nd of this month and the service manager has told me the car shouldn’t have opened the electric charger flap and is looking at software updates and the possible replacement of relevant control modules if required.

He’s seen the video and made a sarcastic comment about liking and subscribing due to it being hosted on YouTube, i explained to him I’ve just used that to host the video so it can be seen, not to create content about it.. I’m 37 not 13, I just want it fixing.

He was a bit non commital about a claim for the damage from the flap popping open but said they need to see the car first, then we’ll talk.

We’ll see what happens.

Update: so the car has had all the updates required, I’m not sure which ones? The latch that locks and unlocks the flap has been replaced with the old part sent back to BMW for investigation?

BMW are also repairing the damaged paintwork to the flap and removing the dent from my wing caused by the malfunction.

I have to say Sandal Wakefield have been very good, it’s been far too easy to get rectified/repaired as I was expecting a bit of a fight with them, possibly due to the video which clearly shows the incident.

I’ve also noticed this morning that i’ve chipped the paint on the wing where the flap has bent back just before the cover eventually dropped off onto the floor.

As I say, I’ve emailed them so I expect to get a return email today from them saying something along the lines of ‘thanks, but no thanks..’.

There’s a few electrical gremlins arising with this car.

1) Keyless entry unlocks all doors apart of the rear passenger side door.

2) Lock the car but the door mirrors fold intermittently, sometimes they fold, sometimes they don’t.

3) Electric tailgate foot action works 1 out of 100, actually the only time it’s worked is when the BMW fella showed me on collection day, I’ve been like Michael Flatley dancing away behind the car trying to open the bloody thing before, never works.

4) Electric charging flap mysteriously pops open.

3) Try to imitate the movement of your foot as if you were getting a ball from below the car, sometimes we swap the foot from left to right or viceversa and that is not accurate, if you do it aligned to the center of the car, it works for me 100% of the time. I hope it helps

The charging flap on mine opened today as I was reversing out the garage, luckily I heard the audible warning and saw the message on the screen. Odd things happening with mine with it sometimes not being able to be opened and now opening all by itself. Good job I saw it or it would have been ripped off on the garage door pillar

That’s exactly what mine did, BMW have repaired it FOC.

They’ve repaired the paint on the flap/wing as I caught mine on the garage door opening.

I am told they replaced the solenoid mechanism during the repair.

I can tell you now though if I hadn’t of had CCTV footage of it popping open they wouldn’t have believed me, I’ve been told that face to face.

Always best to do that but it sounds like you know what’s going to be said to you.

Good luck.
