You may find the 3.0i more comfortable, with its softer suspension. The gas mileage may be better—don’t know from experience. I had a Legacy GT wagon. It should have been painted yellow. It was great when the engine or transmission didnt grenade.

There's nothing wrong with prioritizing practicality. But a true "driver-oriented" car would be RWD based. Most of us need day-to-day practicality over a more driver-oriented experience.
