Anyway- my cousin who is here visiting from italy told me many many times, Zidane is not the classy, professional player that we all think. She said he's an A-hole. He has been kicked out of many many games, and intentionally fouls players on many occasions.

I agree Materazzi shouldnt have said what he supposedly said, but you know what.. this is the world cup, and your final apperance as a player- you shouldnt let anything get in your way of winning. If i were zidane, i would have let it go, then after the match, beat the living shit outta him. But i wouldnt let some player jepordize whats at stake. Zidane should have kept his cool, finish the game, and make his country proud

First of all Zidane knows that Materazzi is dirty player, he just snapped.
When Zidane use to play for Juve he got a few red cards. He was was suspended for five games in Champions League for headbutting a player. In the 1998 world cup he got a red card for stepping on player.

Now everyone is trying to justify why he did it. He shouldn't have done what he did.

Now if Materazzi said something racist than he should be punished for it. The latest information is that Materazzi told Zidane that is sister is slut.

It was obvious what Materazzi said live on Saturday night when I was watching it. I knew he said something about his mum, you could just see it, feel it. I feel sorry for Zidane and don't blame him one bit, Matarazzi got what he deserved. FIFA should get on Matarazzi's case if he has been racist to Zidane, racism shouldn't be in any sport.

I watched the game too. Using super-slow motion, and with the help of an interpreter I was able to discern exactly what Materazzi said to Zidane:

"Your mother was a hamster and your father smells of elderberry."

Now see if Zidane had watched "Bend it Like Beckham", he would have learned that retaliation is a selfish act that reflects negatively on the team.

Seriously, I grew up getting lots of racial slurs, and you just have to ignore the opposing bench. Winning is the best revenge.

I agree. Im sure both sides did plenty of trash talking. Its not like the french were complimenting the italians on their hairstyles, while the italians were calling them dirty terrorists. Alls fair in love and war...
