UNC accepts 34% of applicants. If I were in that boat I'd be looking elsewhere anyways.

You can always check out Florida State. Their hospitality program is 4th in the country if you wanted to pursue your tourism path, plus FL is the tourism capital of the country. There is some talk about cutting the school of hospitality because of budget cuts, but that is a bunch of scare tactics by the university President to get the state to allocate us more money. Plus the fact its a public school should mean the tuition is pretty reasonable.

Edit: Just looked up out of state tuition to FSU. $18,452 estimated for two semesters at 15 hours a semester. Don't know what that does for you.

As far as admissions, about 25,000 people applied and only 11,000 got in.

Here is the website to the hospitality program: http://cob.fsu.edu/dsh/ha_ba.cfm

Call me crazy, but if your financial situation is as dire as you say, you either need to take yourself back to your state of residence and enroll in the best public school available, or take up residence in another state, work or attend a CC while waiting to fulfill the residency requirements, and then enroll at a school in that state to take advantage of the in-state rates. You aren't exactly in a position to be picky.

No offense to you, but FSU has been slipping in terms of Florida public universities over the last decade. Admission requirements for Florida State are lower than Central and South Florida. Only a matter of time before UNF and UWF sneak in. Just sayin.

Florida State graduate programs rank among nation's best: http://fsu.edu/news/2009/04/24/grad.rankings/

Quote:
The College of Criminology and Criminal Justice ranked seventh, up from its previous 11th place ranking.

The College of Information was ranked 14th and was cited for its excellence in three specialty areas. School library media and children and youth services each were ranked No. 3 and digital librarianship was ranked 11th.

The College of Law has moved up to the 52nd best law school in the nation. U.S. News also ranks Florida State Law's environmental law program 11th best in the nation, tied with Stanford and Tulane. Over the past five years, the law school's overall ranking in U.S. News has gone up 15 slots.

The College of Education has made a significant leap in the rankings, claiming the 41st position in the nation, climbing from 45th last year and 53rd the previous year. In addition, the secondary teacher education specialty was ranked 21st.
FSU is consistently ranked among the Nation's top 25 in Physics, Chemistry, Oceanography, Statistics, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Meteorology, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Information, Creative Writing, Public Policy, Business and Law.

The College of Business is ranked Nationally:

1st in Professional Golf Management
4th in Hospitality
6th in Risk Management
14th in Real Estate
19th in Management Information Systems
25th in Accounting

FSU is ranked by the Princeton Review as the 5th on the Best Value in Public Colleges list.

Lets also not forget how FSU is home to the National High Magnetic Field Labratory, which we won from M.I.T. (yeah the one in Cambridge). FSU was instrumental in helping to construct the Large Hadron Collider due to our work in magnetic properties.

FSU's film and music schools are also within the top 10 Nationally.

As far as admissions go, the average FSU applicant in 2008 had a 1265 SAT and a GPA of 3.8. We have also had 3 Rhodes Scholars since 2005, most notably Myron Rolle this past Fall.

The fact that you even consider UNF and UWF are close to catching FSU in any respect shows you don't know what you are talking about. UNF has an average SAT of a little over 1000. UWF will admit a student with a 2.9 GPA as long as their SAT is over a 970 (http://uwf.edu/catalog/adm.cfm#admsecond).

One of the MAIN reasons UCF (and other FL schools) has been advancing up the hierarchy of Florida Schools is because FSU and UF have tightened admission requirements a lot over the last few years and students who used to get into FSU and UF are looking elsewhere. The increase in qualified applicants has lead to a rise in the average scores of first time applicants to schools like UCF, USF, FAU, FIU, etc. As theses schools are taking more qualified applicants, people who normally got into them are being rejected and forced to look at schools like UNF and UWF or even stay home to go to a community college.

Here is a news article that completely backs up my point: http://www.tbo.com/news/nationworld/MGBJ2RL776F.html

Quote:
"I wouldn't be able to get into USF now, and I was an honors student," said Pines, the guidance resource specialist at Jefferson.

Many of her students want to go to the state's flagship colleges, UF and FSU. USF, though, has become as hard to crack.
As far as FSU vs. UCF. FSU is considered a tier 1 school. UCF a tier 3. UCF's admissions department is a mess. My sister who is a Sophomore in high school has told me there friends of hers who are seniors who got into UF and FSU but rejected from UCF. (Tier sources: UCF (http://rankings.usnews.com/college/n...tral%20Florida) and FSU (http://rankings.usnews.com/college/n...lorida%20State).

Oh, and in the interest of full disclosure, when I applied for college in 2005 I was accepted to FSU, UF, USF, and University of Maryland. I heard from USF in two weeks. FSU and UF in 2 months. I was wait listed at Maryland but latter accepted (Maryland is a MUCH better school than either UF or FSU and shames the rest in FL). After much though I chose FSU mainly because I liked the atmosphere better than UF and staying in state meant I could go to college for free as opposed to paying out of state tuition at UMD.

Oh, and I got rejected from UCF . After I called to ask why (not that I really cared, but was curious) and admissions officer told me she would get back to me. Two days later she called and told me I was accepted.

But anyways, you are entitled to your own opinion, so no offense taken. But I'd rather trust the experts, rankings, recruiters, and proof which prove that FSU is a better university than what you think.

Couldn't agree more! You're on your 4th college and your GPA is 2.5. You listed a bunch of extra extracurricular activities that you enjoy about the city/state you want/desire to live in but reality speaks and says you need to work on the GPA and staying in ONE school (especially with 41 credits, you still have roughly ~81 credits left until you graduate). I too suggest you go to a community college, raise your GPA, get a part time job and save your money.

They both were accepted to FSU.

Florida State University football is one of the 120 NCAA Division I FBS collegiate football teams in America. The first Florida State football team was fielded in the 1899 season and lasted until the 1904 season.[119][150] The team went (7-6-1) over the 1902-1904 seasons posting a record of (3-1) against their rivals from the Florida Agricultural College in Lake City. In 1904 the Florida State football team became the first ever state champions of Florida after beating both the Florida Agricultural College and Stetson University.[150] The football team and all male students subsequently moved to the newly opened University of Florida in Gainesville in 1906 as a result of the 1905 Buckman Act.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida...noles_football

Not to mention we didn't start our new football program until the 50's, so we were years behind other schools.

Also, a funny story that I was told that I bet most people don't know. When FSU applied to win the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory from M.I.T. we didn't have the money to pay the entrant fee. So we called UF and told them if they would pay our entrant fee for us we would build them a magnet on their campus if we won. It was a long shot, but we won the bid and lived up to our word. The magnet is housed in the Microkelvin Laboratory just a few hundred feet across the street from the Swamp. On the ground surrounding the magnet are two circles painted Garnet and Gold

Lets not talk about other sports where FSU has beaten UF almost every year. I think 4 of the last 5 years we have beat you in Basketball (including when you won the National Championship). We knocked you out of the playoffs in Baseball last year. We are 3 in a row National Track and Field National Champs, etc.

It's all good though. At least you aren't a Miami fan.

Haha, its a nice friendly rivalry, some people take it too seriously. I just like to poke and prod since we are on a down streak right now (though last year wasn't too bad).

There is a guy at the Seminole Golf Course who used to play for UGA before he tore his knee, you should hear the shit he talks about UF , you'd think someone from UF killed his mother.

lol, no offense taken. I was accepted to both FSU and UF for undergrad and for law school. I chose FSU for both and don't regret it a bit.

And for the record, Geno Hayes would wreck Tebow in a fight.

Actually no, since Gatorade is a proprietary blend. I wouldn't even go as far as suggesting that they stole the idea for a sports drink from FSU since many other schools at the time were using salt enhanced drinks (Rutgers being a notable one). There are also very few references to the supposed "Seminole Firewater" so it is hard to back up any claim. A funny thing is you cannot get Gatorade at any FSU owned/co-oped store on campus. Every place, including the health center Thagard, uses Powerade

But the magnet thing is 100% true. That is why UF has the magnet on their campus when we won the contract.

Every place, including the health center Thagard, uses Powerade

But the magnet thing is 100% true. That is why UF has the magnet on their campus when we won the contract.
