Can you imagine this car with a n/a Vette v8 stuffed in it to compete against the M3? I like what Caddy did with the CTS-V!

If the ATC is aimed at the 3 series... then what is the CTS aimed at?
CTS - 3 STS - 5 DTS -7 maybe?

new caddy / vs 335i
I've had a few caddys. One new one would never track straight down the road. If you took your hands off of the steering wheel, you would change lanes. Took it back several times and the dealer said they all do it and it couldn't be fixed. "Gave me a free dinner certificate instead".
Also, the car was a piece of tin. If you opened the trunk, you could twist the metal trunk in your hand. Engine was great though, very strong. My neighbor has the CTS and frankly, I like my beemer more than his. Much better quality. I'm new to the 08 335i that I just bought and like it alot. A little pricey though. BMW needs to watch their pricing. I just sold my C6 vette with 450 HP. Had it for 4 years. Strong car and head turner. Somehow, now being in the 335I, it keeps me happy and I like the car. Here is that car they sell in Europe, it's called the BLS. Interior lifted (almost) wholesale from the 9-3

That is great! Cadillac certainly gives you more car for the money. Shoot, you can even get an LSD in a GM car (come on BMW!). Now that GM isn’t weighed down by all of the legacy crap from the last 50 years it is going to be agile, lean and mean. Its funny how Geman engineering is assumed to be superior to American engineering around here. (nichts gegen die Deutschen, aber sie sind nicht die einzigen Ingenieure in diesem Welt). Certainly the US is going to have a lower cost structure than the Germans in general.
It is good to have choices! Bring it on.

Uh, no, the new car isn’t a BLS. If you remember, the 9-3 is owned by SAAB, not GM (anymore). That car was the epsilon platform anyway. The alpha is new and is a RWD platform, not a FWD platform.-
The BLS talk is just obfuscation.

GM needs to ditch all the crap they have been putting out in the past 20 years. The CTS was a fugly car with all their angular styling.
If it is on a completely new platform, its built well, and performs in handling AND power similar to a BMW, then it might not be all that bad. But chrome was so 2001, and Ill guarantee this car will be covered in it. BTW, why an E46, and not E92 M3 if they were really looking for a performer? |

We'll see, but.................chances are the exterior will be nice.........the interior........not so much. Remember too, by the time the ATS hits the shelves the new 2012 3er will be in and the ATS will not hit till at least 2013....

The CTS may be aimed at the 5-series, but isn't the interior the size of the 3-series? If so, how small will the new car be?
If GM brings out all these new models, they will fail if any one of them is a big SUV or truck. All the executives in Detroit should stay far away from SUVs and trucks because IMO that is one of the reasons they are in the position they are in. The Corvette and the Cadillacs seem to be the main GM cars with current technology in them, but I think they are still lacking. It would be nice to actually have some American cars that can compete across the board with foreign cars, but I doubt it will happen. People will settle so they can say they bought American, but they will be settling. |

The current CTS is a pretty nice car. The DI engine puts out 306 HP and is a wonderful piece. I had the previous generation CTS and the engine and AT were world class. The interior on the newer version blows away the 3 series. It's certainly not the Cadillac of old in any way.
Regarding size, BMW doesn't publish interior dimensions on their website (at least I couldn't find them) but I'm pretty sure the Caddy is wider and certainly has a larger trunk. I could fit 3 golf bags in my CTS. One fits in my 3 series. I'd rather have a 3 series but $ for $ the CTS gives you more content. Thanks, Mike. |

This is my first BMW, and I LOVE, LOVE it. I have only ever owned one American car, (which my first: an 88 Chrysler Lebaron). I have owned all foreign cars since then. The 2 door caddy is the first time I have been interested in an American car in 10 years. If they make it right...I'll consider getting one...

It might be cheaper but not better ... or not even the same ... plus at the end you'll pay more for the service and stuff ...
