Pretty lame. That ad says nothing.
It might be true that Audi is dull and BMW is fun, but that ad is simply uncreative.

After looking at the earlier quarters it seems to me that new car registrations fluctuate based on incentives and model change events. It would be interesting to find out if the KFZ has free information over longer time periods. They have some nice reports but you have to pay. I am sure when the new 3 series comes out the rank will reverse until the new A4 comes out and so on... Why don't they take stabs at Mercedes? Any .de perspective on this? Perhaps they believe that all the taxis in europe are doing them a good enough service. (I still don't like the ad ) |

guuuuuayyyyyyyyyyyyyy BMW ad. usually there ads are creative, clean, refined and fun. that one was just stupid, i want my 2 minutes back!
not sure if BMW drivers are more athletic, we have bigger windows/sunroofs/etc, or Audi needs to increase there window size. dumb, stupid, ad.

So this is the second part of the 'Jump for joy' ad that was shown earlier:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=306623 Some observations: 1. Part 2 now clearly explains a context on what was going on with Part 1. BTW wasn't a big fan of Part 1 when I saw it. My post is no. 68 from the "jump for Joy" part 1 post: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=306623&page=4 2. It seems that BMW is clearly pointing out a rival in Audi and Audi drivers. 3. BMW marketing clearly committed a big no-no in advertising: If you are the market leader, don't acknowledge the also-rans. For instance Apple does so well because it can tackle the big "Goliath" of its space (Microsoft) and everytime Microsoft acknowledges Apple, Apple wins. BTW Apple now has 12% of the PC sales, up from 6% from a few years back. Think of Budget and Avis, who says "we will try harder? (answer: the company in second place - Avis.) So coming back to BMW, they are the US market leader in luxury cars sales. Audi is way behind. Lexus is no. 2 in the US and may catch BMW this year. Even compared to its German rivals, BMW makes a particular type of car: rear-wheel drive (or x-drive, which is rear focused), tight handling/steering, great chassis, communicative to drive cars. Audi's main focus and selling point over the years has been Quattro and award-winning interiors and design. The driving feel of Audi's are totally different from BMW cars. Yes, now Audi is making cars that are more rear-drive biased and sportier, even with the Quattro (ie S5, RS4, R8), but the majority of its cars are in my opinion, are common driving cars. I can't say about the current A4/S4 model, since I haven't drove them, but I come from a previous history of driving/owning many Audi's. And I prefer the BMW drive compared to the Audi drive. (My only caveat is I would own the R8 with the v10 if it was the only car I could have. That car is awesome!) So to make a commerical that basically makes fun of Audi drivers, for a cheap laugh is beyond me. 4. What I would like BMW to focus on is the driving experience of a BMW and not worry about Audi. Or not go the road of IKEA or Saturn and try to get 'goosey-goosey' and 'feel-good' with me. Trust me, I get joy from my BMW, but thats when I see a nice winding road, no traffic and I put my foot on the throttle. Put that in a commerical. Heck, show an Audi left in the dust for all I care, but lets get away from the jumping in windows/sunroof nonsense.

What a dumb advertisement. I don't see how anybody would prefer a BMW over Audi or vice versa w/ this commercial.
