Live at home like me. Woo.

I'd like to have my own place though. A BMW eventually just becomes a means of taking me from point A to B rather than a luxury or cool car.

his point is really just asking if it is smart to spend too much money on a car when he does not have a house yet.

If it was a nice apartment in a good neighborhood I'd get another BMW before I upgraded. Who cares if I have messed up priorities? I'm still driving a BMW.

I sure do. In Glendale, CA I see people with brand new S-Class and 7-series (Li's too) parked in front of apartments. It's fairly common. I'm not pointing at any particular race here, but Armenians really do love their Mercs! Glendale is Merc city but to be honest, in general, a majority of the cars feel like they're European. Mostly Benz's, Bimmers 2nd, and Audi's last.

Watch this video, I laughed so hard when I was shopping for a car (I like Merc's but I feel that's when I retire). It's so true.

So a 3-series in an apartment seems fine. Though if you have a 5-series or above and living in an apartment, your priorities are definitely in need of adjustment. Though who am I to judge, if you analyze my situation, i'm not much better!

Not sure why this matters at all? Do what you like and what makes you happy.

If you're going to make a statement like this, try and make it semi-believable.

There's no such thing as a $1500 apartment on Rodeo with a Beverly Hills address. I had a condo in Carmel Mountain that size, and it was more than that.

As long as its a nice apartment in a decent area with a garage, then its so having an expensive car.

I've only been out of college a couple year so Im under 30 but I've already owned two BMWs (04 E46, 08 E92) and lived in apartments.

Should I be saving for a house, probably, but I looked at it like this...I'll probably get a house when I get married and when I get married I won't be able to just go out and upgrade BMWs every few years due to a wife. So I might as well have fun now and drive an expensive car.

I am 30 living in an apartment owning a BMW. Would I like a house? Sure is it a priority? Nope. I like not having to deal with all the BS attached to owning a house right now. Plus im not sure where I am in life, meaning finding a girl to spend life with, which state do I want to live in, which job to I want to cahnge to in my current career(thankfully I can do that). I guess the most important piece of info is that I live in an apartment by choice not by financial reasons.

i don't see anything wrong with it...if you make the payments in the apt and paying for your car then thats all good..what really bothers me are people who uses food stamps and lives in a low cost housing and still drives expensive cars...

Even renting an apartment in either of these areas most likely is more than a mortgage in most areas.

I'm not sure where the OP is currently residing, but living in an apartment, either by purchasing or renting versus buying a single family house, has no relationship to a person's financial and social status. Would you look down on someone who pulled out of Trump Towers in a Bentley merely because he/she is living in an apartment?
+1
I rent an apt in a luxury building near wall st, walk to work and have a bmw. one did not dictate the choice of the other. hell, my parking costs as much as a lease special 335i....
not sure what the generalization is trying to say.... everyone has their own priorities, everyone has different needs.
i will say though, if you are stretching yourself to make rent, eat, and have a bmw, you may need to reexamine those priorities, but at the end of the day, they are YOUR priorities.

Well, me personally, I share an apartment with my cousin and I still have a BMW. Had a beautiful '04 Corvette before I bought the BMW (it was tragically totalled. Thank you, rain + shitty loop 1604) The fact is, I love cars. I'm a student, and starting nursing school in the fall. I work 40 hours a week and I also go to school full time and have been for the last three years. I suppose realistically it would almost be CHEAPER to buy a house than it would be throwing away money on rent. I get the occasional comment about my lifestyle, but I say hey, I drive a BMW, I'm doing well for myself, and I have a very nice apartment. It works for me, so do what works for you, my friend. Odds are people who are hating on you for it are probably just jealous.
