It's one of the few cars I would learn stick for so I could buy it. Man are those 5-doors sexy.

If this doesn't convince you to get a 5-door, I don't know what will

Just want to throw this in.... the WRX also comes with the wide body this year. So if you don't mind a little less HP, you can save a bunch of money.

On paper, the STi is only slightly faster than the WRX - not sure how much faster it feels in real life and if it is worth the extra $7k.

I was a fan of the 5 door too, but I just saw a wide body sedan this week.... Loved it.

The argument is eerily similar to 335 vs M3... There's quite a bit more to the STi than just the HP difference. There's suspension components, transmission, etc....

The WRX is actually faster to 60 IIRC because of the wider spacing of the 5-speed which doesn't necessitate the extra shift that the 6-speed does.

5 door all the way, I really don't like the new sedan. I had an 05, and I still kinda regret selling it, it was a solid car. I just got annoyed with all the rattles and kinda shitty interior, but I really like the 5 door. Plus, as a random bonus, I think insurance on a 5 door is cheaper?

+1 on 5 door. Been looking at those myself.

I cant believe how much I hated this car when it came out. I love it now. I would definitely rock it. How modable are they? How much whp can you get with a tune intake and exhaust?

My buddy has a bug eye wrx sedan and when it snowed earlier this year we took it out and went berzerk... I have done a bunch of track driving but I have never had more fun than that wrx in the snow, granted I did destroy his clutch and spent a few days last week helping him put a new one in but it was worth it.

If I lived in a climate with more snow I would have one for sure.

Nice car. I've only rode in one but plenty quick. Tuning potential if you are looking for that

Just go test drive one. It's definitely a different powerband, it does have more lag than the N54 and very short gears. Stiffer stock than a 135, interior is not as good (I think I had 5 rattles in mine when I sold it, but they've improved since 05) and MPG is definitely lower. I had so much fun with that thing in the snow though, it inspires a lot of confidence and I never felt like I could get stuck anywhere. It has plusses and minuses.

all my friends had STis and Evos. Their cars were not pleasant to be in

that's not a good thing.. it sounds like it feels out of control at 60mph...

I don't get what you're saying. You said you configured a 2011 STi sedan. The base price on one would be $34k. A 2011 5.0 with a 6MT, Brembo brake package and 3.73 diff would still be cheaper, like around $33k. It's faster, RWD, and sounds better.

Don't get me wrong, I love the STi, but I just think the 5.0 is a better deal on a majority of aspects.

^ I don't think that's what he means by the "felt like 100" thing. I had the same sensation in my STi, it was because the gears were so damn short and you would fire through them so fast that it would make you think you were going a lot faster than you were. Not that the car was slow by any means, but it does not pull as hard as a N54/55 stock for stock.

oh
I thought he meant like "drive a toyota at 150km/h and it feels like it is going way fast, drive a porsche at 150km/h and it really doesn't feel all that fast"
