Joe killed it as always! Eric Johnson from Austin, Lago Vista. Eric started out in his folks garage. I lived right up the road in Cedar Park and later on in Bee Cave. Good stories there. We stood in the rain for 2 plus hours waiting to get in…….then stood up for another 2….2 1/2 hours. It was incredible. Been to 3 Vai shows, Sex and Religion, Houston when I lived off off Bunker Hill. Devin was the singer……another incredible concert! LIsten to “Still My Bleeding Heart” ………powerful. “In my Dreams With You” got some syndicated radio play Nationwide. .

Seen Steve Vai play a lot over the years, he first came down under on the Fire Garden tour. A small group of us (6-8 or so) who were there waiting early got let in to watch the sound check for free. I still have the picks we were given as gifts. The most recent time was the Hydra tour - I really wanted to see him play that beast of a musical instrument and he did not disappoint. I have lost count of how many times I have seen Satch. He seems to show up down here all the time. |

115th birthday of Romani/Belgian/French jazz guitarist Jean "Django" Reinhardt (1910-1953).
Remarkably dealt with adversity: as a result of a serious fire accident at the age of 18 that nearly crippled him, he retaught himself to play the guitar using primarily the index and middle fingers of his left hand, using the two injured fingers (ring and little fingers) only for chord work. He developed a completely new left hand technique, his hallmark sound. He played completely by ear (he could neither read nor write music). He died suddenly in 1953 at the age of 43. Arguably one of the greatest jazz guitarists, respected by many greats in the jazz and rock music world. When you hear Django, you know that it's Django: "Minor Swing" (1937): "Nuages" (1953):
