Ours, a 1946 Studebaker, and also the 1955 Studebaker that followed was also equipped with side panel vents that stuck out from the side of the car when opened, and funneled air into the front foot wells. We lived in Miami so the windows, the wings, and the vents stayed open year round but to little avail. My parents never did own a car with AC.

And this is why the hearing loss in my left ear is worse than my right ear (seriously).

Mine's worse in my left ear as well. But I've always attribute that to shooting in the military. Shooting righty meant the left ear was tilted slight more toward the end of the barrel. I remember my left ear ringing badly after firing without earplugs.

We had one of those gizmos in my dad's mom-and-pop TV store back in the '70's. It was for the exclusive use of transmitting the day's credit card receipts, if I recall correctly. Prior to that invention, we had to hand-carry the credit card stuff to the bank up the street a few blocks. And we wouldn't know if any of the credit cards were fraudulent for days after the sale.

This was due to weather affecting the microwave relay transmission equipment that moved the data across the country. This equipment was generally located on towers about 30-50 miles apart. In terms of completing a transmission without interruption, winter was the worst. Ice on the microwave dishes in New Mexico often resulted in interruptions to our data transmissions. However, the software governing the transmissions took appropriate checkpoints (i.e., regular snapshots during the transmission, allowing the transfer to restart from those points after restarting), and we almost always succeeded in transmitting our data on time.
