I feel that there should be a sub forum for every vendor based on what they sell, and in that forum is everything they sell, so there will be no need to bump, because they would only be bumping their own threads over more of their threads.
So basically if you're looking for lights, you click on lights, and a list of vendors appears, and you click on a vendor and you see all they offer.

One other idea that seems to work real well on E46Fanatics is to just freeze the bumping of threads. New threads appear but they slowly work down as new threads are introduced on the forum. When someone responds to a thread in the sponsor forum, the thread is not bumped up. That way, only the newest products are left at the top and older products sift their way down.
While I understand Vendors could continue to remake threads to have new threads at the top, you could limit this and I think it would take away the need to bump threads. We never have to maintain or bump threads over there and it has worked quite well. |

^I like that idea, but I think organizing threads the way Craig and others are suggesting is something that should be implemented with your idea as well--that way having to post something new to get something up top isn't going to become another competition, even with a new thread post limitation

Nick i've been a moderator on Fanatics for years and we get our fair share of complaints with that system as well. Subforums simply eliminates any and all thread bumpiong completely!!

+1. At first I though this feature was the quickest way to browse new posts...be it new car mods pics, review/feedback of parts, etc. You get 10-12 pages of "new posts" and half of the posts are either vendor bumps or "FS: " bumps ("Nice ride, GL with sale", "sick wheels. bump for a great seller", etc, etc.) I guess I'll have to start using the forum's "categories" for browsing LOL

It's good to see people acknowledge that we are not the only guilty party. In fact, we used to email the moderators allll the time with screen shots etc asking them to limit the bumping... eventually, we just gave up on waiting for a solution, and because we saw a drop-off in traffic, we had to play into it and continue bumping. Not an excuse, but an explanation.

I feel compelled to post as one of the small guys here.
Sometimes it feels as if big dog eats little dog in that the smaller vendors don't have a chance to make it or even get recognized due to the larger vendors that keep bumping their threads. Kinda sucks in that we little guys have some good stuff to offer too but can't get our name out. That's my .02. So if there was a way to limit the bumping, i'm all for it. |
