even if fake, I'd sure appreciate an analogue-esq speedo and tachometer.

So I'm confused. Is this suppose to ahhm do what? This is for who? What is this? Are you now suppose to take your eyes off the road while driving? Are insurance companies on board with this? So the car lights up alot at night then what? Ohhh man!

You think having no instrument panel at all looks better?

Never thought we'd get to a point where iDrive 8.x is the preferred option.

I'm certain the car will still have some buttons. I think this is an idrive swap. I would still see bmw having buttons ans stalks, some sort of baby shift lever. The idrive control will likely die

Sad for BMW, we will get used to it, but we will always miss simplicity of older versions and buttons. I have 8.5 and it is not that bad, a few bottoms would help, but this one is not something I am looking forward to. Glad that I got BMW before this change.

Lame, we want to see the road not a screen that takes up more acreage and a massive screen in the middle. Can we get back to buttons and good ergonomics for, what was it again, driving?

Not true. I added the word "future" that was missing from my previous post. Reports suggest Tesla's average cost to build an electric car is significantly lower than traditional manufacturers like BMW due to streamlined production techniques, used battery technology and overall efficiency meaning a Model Y would likely be cheaper to produce than an iX despite the battery cost. Once all manufacturers streamline the manufacturing, they will make more profit. That's why BMW heavily markets all EV cars and tries to make sure they are received as high quality products as this will be the deciding factor for the buyer when everybody has similar manufacturing cost for EVs in the near future.

My least favorite part is the loss of the iDrive knob.

Even with iDrive 8, I use the knob to control more than 95% of the touchscreen. The only thing I use the touchscreen for is the temperature (which itself should have never been on the touchscreen).

I just don't know where they are going with this stuff, I want to sit hunkered down in a driver focused cockpit, with an instrument cluster and buttons and dials and levers, that looks like the interior from a posh Renault MPV.

For decades BMW gave us this, whilst adding all the tech in they kept that driver focused theme whether a 7 series or a M3 CSL, now they have gone bonkers and are peddling this nonsense.

No.

Is the HUD focused at 6 feet away like current ones so your eyes don’t have to effectively refocus? Or is this a bit like those in the mini which are just displayed on the dash? Not clear to me

This just looks gimmicky to me, just because tech can do this doesn’t mean they should.

Targeting at younger buyers? ( can they afford a new Bmw?)

Not for me and personally have been turned off from Bmw ever since idrive 8

This is perfect ergonomics for driving, as you don't have to take your eyes off the road. And this panoramic display doesn't take away from your view of the road, as it's under it.

Lincoln has that same big screen from one side to the other. It’s as if they’re mixing Lincoln and Tesla with that center screen. Looks odd.
