The thing is though, no radar makes you invincible so don't go around speeding like an idiot. I am usually about 10 mph over the limit. When it goes off I'm able to decelerate enough to not have any issues. Cops don't usually care if you are 10-15% over the limit.

Unfortunately nothing is going to save you if they laser you or "gun" you. If your radar detector sees them then they already see you too in those situations so it's too late. I've had 2 speeding tickets as a result of those circumstances. So yes I recommend having a good radar detector but it doesn't give you an excuse to speed. It is just a safety blanket in case you end up going a few mph over the limit when coming up on a speed trap
Ditto. Couldn't agree with ya'll more. Bel RX 65 rocks. Mine has saved me numerous times to justify the cost at least 2-3x over. Bel now has newer model RX-65 called Pro 300 but don't waste $300 buying the newer version. Do what I did. For $139 you can ship your RX 65 and they'll replace the antenna, upgrade your software and recalibrate it and ship it back to you making it a Pro 300 for less than half of purchasing a new one. Also those of you who have done your research will find that BEL and ESCORT are essentially the same company and sell almost the same radars. You will find that Escort 8500 x50 and Bel RX 65 (now Pro 300) and Escort 9500ix and Bel Pro 500 are just about the same detector performance and feature wise. Unless you opt to go with their absolute top of the line models which only have very slight variations. In my opinion either will do the job just fine unless you're just driving with no regard for po po and that crazy stupid thing they use to regulate our inner James Bond or Nathan Hunt urges called a speed limit.. Lol

Yes, my 8500ci has saved me on numerous occasions. As others have stated, if you are the lead dog way out front by yourself, trigger/POP/Instant on is gonna nail you......................... for me it's a combination on knowing how to drive with the detector and knowing the local speed traps so "if I am the lead dog, I slow down to be safe just in case he's hiding around the corner.

Run a V1 and a pair of K30 laser jammers. Haven't had a problem with the police, but those dang Speed cameras NYC is putting up by schools got me. Nothing is picking them up.

In Houston most of the pigs are using laser that both V1 and Magnum STI cannot detect. Laser jammers are prohibited in Texas. Perhaps we can get rocket launchers to defeat the money generation schemes of these pigs.

Using laser jammers in TX is about as illegal as speeding. If you use them correctly you will not have any problems.

I have an 8500 x50 and honestly I don't feel any more confident driving with or without it. After a while it feels more pointless than useful. The issue is laser, short of getting a laser jammer (illegal) you can not truly drive knowing CHP is up ahead. I can say for a fact that my radar has not caught every KA. Even if my radar was spot on with every KA,K,X, etc the fact that laser can still tag me is a concern. Of course the radar is just a tool though and common sense must come in to play.

I don't feel the same way you do at all concerning whether or not I have my detector in the car, however, I fully agree with your final statement there. It's another tool in the car and is NOT to be fully relied on.
