Wow... 2014 and this stuff is still going on. I stayed in the states for 8 years and I've just witnesses 2 racist events in total.

The first was when I took a summer course at a local college to gain some college credits early. When I was the only kid that actually that handed in the assignment... The prof gave a speech abt how Asians are going to take over the world and they the other students should learn from Asians. I walked out to the podium and took the assignment back, reared it up and told the prof thanks for getting me beat up... U r so walking me to my car after class... Everyone just laughed and we all decided to boycott the final for the course.

The second time was more serious. One of my classmates had an argument with a black teacher. When the teach wanted to detain him after class, the kid said "why don't u shut up and just go pick my cotton". One girl just started crying and the cops had to be called. Otherwise this kid ain't walking outta the school alive...

It's actually pretty pathetic down here. I'm from Houston, TX where things are more diverse and people are more accepting and interested in others and their lifestyles.

I can't really blame the people, it's just generations of fear and ignorance that breeds this and kids learn from parents, and it's a never ending cycle.

Half of my co-workers refuse to answer the phone if they deem it as a minority on the phone or will just keep them on hold until they hang up.

Sad, but true. I often joke with my black friends that they had their turn at racism, now it's ours (middle easterns) to get the short end of the stick.

All jokes aside, it's pretty obvious here in my area of GA at least. I can't say the whole state is like this, only what/where I've lived.

This sounds like something I'd see in a comedy sitcom

I'm not sure I found your teacher's speech about asians to be necessarily racist (Note: I am asian), and I've been put on the spot for having the top grades in numerous classes over the years without resentment from my peers.

How exactly does one "boycott" a final exam though? Couldn't the teacher just decide to give all of you Ds and Fs for failing to take the final exam

I think getting good grades won't necessarily get u in trouble with your peers. I think it's the brown nosing that gets u. Plus, as long as u r in a sports team... U got buddies no matter what.

As for the final, no one took it. He can't fail us all. It looks real bad for the prof. He ended up grading us based on out assignments and tests. Everyone ended up getting no less than a C. I didn't care as a pass would have gotten me advance credit. I even joke abt it and said in an Asian accent that is have to kill myself now for getting a B as I have shamed my family... Lol
