I hear "medical drama" and I cringe, but maybe HBO has a different spin on things. I'll give it a try. Last medical show that I watched/enjoyed was House, and it was basically Sherlock Holmes with a twist (House/Wilson).

Started this last night. Didn't get very far because multitasking. How is this any different than ER, House M.D., Chicago Med, Grey's Anatomy or the many other doctor dramas?

However, this one plays out each episode as one hour of their 15 hour shift in the emergency room. So it is different from a time perspective. As I mentioned above, this gives the viewer that high paced feeling. There is a lot going on with the patient churn. It feels more realistic to me in the scenes with injuries...more graphic. Like what you would expect to see in an ER. So far, the character building is good early on without the corny romance and everyone sleeping with each other aspect that some of the other shows I've watched thought was a good idea to integrate into the story lines. The dark humor of a few scenes has been refreshing too. Like I said, probably similar in a lot of ways, but with enough of a twist and change of pace to keep me watching.
