As tallslenderguy said, they cause stomach issues for me. Tylenol is the only one that doesn't.

Naproxen, Ibuprofen and Aspirin are all three NSAID's, they are COX-1 inhibitors and they all reduce the protective coating of the stomach which results in upper GI pain and injury in some people.

Esteban's doctor gave him the 81mg for vascular protection, but he's one of the unlucky ones that cannot tolerate NSAID's, he'd likely have the same results with Naproxen and Ibuprofen since they have similar pharmacology and side effects.

The max dose for Tylenol is 4000mg a day. Typical dose is 650mg, and if you are taking that 2x a day, you are well within range. The toxicity problems usually occur when people don't follow the dosing instructions. Interestingly, there has been long term debate about making Tylenol (acetaminophen) a prescription drug, there are a lot of people who ignore the instructions and warnings on medications.

i had a patient who was hospitalized from an overdose of Tums. lol, you have to take an awful lot of them to OD, but one of the primary ingredients in Tums is calcium carbonate. Our hearts use calcium ion exchange as part of the mechanism that causes contraction, heart beats. Too much calcium can affect heart rhythm, cause dysrhythmia.

I take 2 500mg capsules twice a day, so 2,000 mg a day. I'm very careful to follow the instructions on any medicine I take. Like I said, it doesn't do much for my back pain. It works better for headaches. I take a lot of prescribed medicine and don't want to take a prescription pain medicine.

Had a successful night last night with my exercises and (almost) nightly 3 mile walk so I am happy that things are looking better.

This is how I got my inoculations when I joined the Army in 1988. I remember them telling us not to flinch or it would rip open our arms.

Yep -- well into the 80's for those injectors for me in the Army as well. I hated those things. In basic training, they had us go through a gauntlet with medics on both sides injecting us at the same time. Then we got to do the Smallpox jabs with nasty pustules for a week afterward even though I'd had that as a child and have the scar to prove it!

I don't think that word ever got to the US Army. They would swipe the head of the injector with an alcohol pad and hit the next one in line.

Shingrix updates -- I got my first vaccination today. $225 cash on the barrelhead. Then I called my secondary insurer (the military) and according to the person I spoke to, had I gone through my doctor's office, I only would pay a $150 copay. Memo to self: Self, you dummy, call insurance FIRST, then get shot! Today my wife saw our primary care doc, who advised her that the first Shingrix shot that she got three years or so was good enough; no need for the second shot. Hmmm...

In 1965 or 1966, on one of my trips from college in Texas to my family in the Philippines, I misplaced my shot record (which I later found in my luggage). No problem, we have a little immunization clinic right here in the Travis Air Force Base passenger terminal. I got 3 shots in each arm (needles I think) and a smallpox vaccination to boot. Fun.

I don't think I ever got that one, but the Yellow Fever shot put me down for two days. My arm was red and hot to the touch and so sore I couldn't move it without severe pain.

I had my first experience with the gun in Navy boot camp in 1966. It was "nuts to butts people, nuts to butts" as some HM nailed us with wild abandon. As I moved on I felt liquid running down my left arm, and when I looked there was a stream of blood dripping from my fingers onto the floor. Some 1cl started yelling at me to get out of line. He then slapped some gauze and tape on my arm, and made me get a bucket and swab (mop) from the corner and clean up my mess. This of course was accompanied by loud derision and criticism. Welcome to the Navy.. boot!

The slice was about a half inch in length and quite deep. Those guns had a lot of power.

Experienced the jet injectors doing basic training in '69. The rumor mill was always in high gear in basic and included warning/scaring recruits of the belief that if the gun's serum bottle was allowed to go empty, it resulted in an injection of only air...causing instant death from heart stoppage. LOL...Remembering how gullible so many were.
